Seems like OM is confident they will sign Hootie Jones that recently decommitted from Alabama...but is from Louisiana. He is a safety/OLB prospect (4 star).

Any truth to the rumor that LSU has cooled on Hootie ? I know they have the press on for Jamal Adams.

not sure where you got this, but I've heard very little confidence in signing him, we've ramped up the recruiting on him but it's a long shot from what i see/hear.

jamal adams is more of a possibility at this point than hootie, but still not to confident on him either.

hope your right though. would love to get him

I think LSU lands one of the two (Adams or Hootie), but not both. If Texas makes a big hire, I could see Adams staying in state. There are rumors LSU has cooled on Hootie. Who knows?

Two reasons LSU has cooled on Hootie:
1. Jamal Adams is better; and
2. Hootie has gained weight...may be a tweener right now.

I still think LSU would take both but they are not pushing for Hootie. They are apparently pushing for Breeland Speaks though. 247 is predicting Hootie to Ole Miss.

I've heard Hootie and Tony Brown to Bama. LSU wants Brown badly...but not going to happen apparently. LSU does not want Hootie very bad is my understanding...not even sure he still has an offer. It looks like LSU could foreseeably lose four of the five 5 star recruits that are said to announce today that have all been LSU leans in recent weeks (most from the State of Louisiana). I predict a lot of sadness and anger amongst the LSU fan base tonight.

I always like to hear the recruiting news on who is recruiting who and who is getting what recruit. I do not however pay any subscriptions to these recruiting news sources and such. Obvious that when you are ranked #1-10 in recruiting every single year and those are same schools that go on to contend every year that there is some merit to the rankings of these recruits.....but I wonder sometimes if high school players are not sometimes ranked higher just because of the schools that are recruiting them??? I assume a 5 star is a guy that already has all the tools and much of the ability to play now. What I would like to know....for comparison...just to get a good grasp of what the stars and such mean....is to see what players were ranked that have now gone on to the NFL. For example, does anyone know what these guys stars were when coming out of high school?

Vick Ballard
Indianapolis Colts
Running Back

Johnthan Banks
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Cornerback

Josh Boyd
Green Bay Packers
Defensive End

Fletcher Cox
Philadelphia Eagles
Defensive End

Anthony Dixon
San Francisco 49ers
Running Back

Antonio Johnson
Tennessee Titans
Defensive Tackle

Tommy Kelly
New England Patriots
Defensive Lineman

Cameron Lawrence
Dallas Cowboys
Linebacker

Kyle Love
Jacksonville Jaguars
Defensive Tackle

Pernell McPhee
Baltimore Ravens
Defensive End

Derek Sherrod
Green Bay Packers
Offensive Tackle

Darius Slay
Detroit Lions
Cornerback

David Stewart
Tennessee Titans
Offensive Tackle

Chris White
New England Patriots
Linebacker

K.J. Wright
Seattle Seahawks
Linebacker

I picked the MSU players who went on to the NFL because they would certainly be less biased than say a group that came from Bama where all the recruits are 5 stars. Not saying these recruits that have a 5 star ranking do not deserve the rank....just wondering how accurate it is.

Tough to watch, but in the end Fournette came through. It hurts to lose Noil, Willis, and Brown but overall there's a lot of talent going to Baton Rouge.

As we sit here today, 247 has seven of the current Top Ten recruiting classes being in the SEC...and Ole Miss is right outside the Top 10 at #13.

http://247sports.com/Season/2014-Footba ... amRankings

MSU is lagging well behind down in the 30s...

I know a lot of guys don't think these recruiting rankings matter...and to a point they are right as there is likely very little difference in quality of the Top 7 or 8 classes year in and year out. However, it is undeniable that the teams that are typically in the Top 10 are also typically at the top of conference and national rankings every year.

Should be an interesting next couple of weeks.

LSU is in the running on 4 more five star recruits (McDowell, Dupre, Jackson and Carter) and hopes to get commits from at least 3 more four star recruits before it is all said and done. Depending on how things shake out...could be their best class ever (at it still will not be as good as Bama's class this year which is astounding and scary).

To me there is really no difference between the top 5 or even top 10 classes. Same can be said for the top 15 to 35 or so. If you look at Ole Miss and State there is a big gap as far as where they are ranked but really have the same caliber of players but Ole Miss just has more commits which when you go by total points makes a big difference. Another thing to take into account is that the majority of interior OL are ranked as 3 stars. I think OL is the hardest position to project how they will transition from high school to college. Also Vanderbilt has been taking it on the chin since Franklin left.

Well, signing day is tomorrow...

Any news on your school of choice?

LSU is in the running for a few high profile players that remain uncommitted, including 5 stars Adoree Jackson and Malachi Dupre along with 4 star DT Travonte Valentine. Tomorrow will be an interesting day around the nation.

Do Ole Miss and State still have any top flight uncommitted players for which they are in the running?
