Watch this short video.. This is what we see on the range.. Small light weight guns in calibers that the shooter can't control muzzle flip. I am 42, 5'10" 180lbs and am in the gym 2-3 times a week. I have hands large enough to palm a full sized basketball and practice loading my gun quickly as often as I can. But, I am getting to the point where handling the recoil and slide on my XDs 45 is getting tough for me, and I will likely be switching to the 9mm XDs soon.

So if I am having troubles with my 45, I can only imagine that a 60+ year old lady would not be able to adequately handle that firearm in a self defense scenario. Again, 95% of the ladies, even young athletic ladies I see on the range have problems handling the slide on 9mm.

My wife has trouble handling the recoil on her LCP, so I would probably tend to agree with you that she wouldn't have full control of the weapon in a
multiple shot situation.

I think the last 2 posts are comparing apples to oranges.
Cwink, that doesn't look like a subcompact 1911 to me. It looks like a full size.
Fireplug, the LCP grip is so small, I have a less that stellar time holding on to it as well.

If my 110lb wife can run a box of 45 through my 1911 and only limp wrist it once where it jams, I think this lady looks butch enough to swing that shooin' iron.

Yes, most ladies can handle those guns when they are target shooting, arms fully extended, wrists locked and well braced for the shot.. That is not where we see most of the issues. It shows up when they start shooting 1 handed, and especially in the hip shooting. Imagine that an attacker is within arms reach and you have to use one hand to hold them off, and the other hand to fire the gun where you can't fully extend your arm or lock your wrists. This is where we see the issues on the range..

Have her try that, but make sure she keeps her non shooting hand on her chest so she doesn't accidentally hit it.. The problem is most people don't train in real life scenarios.. Most people go to the range shoot 50 - 100 rounds at a target and then go home and say they are training, but that is not training.. That is target practice and there is big difference.

I bet a thug will pick someone else to mess with.
I also bet there are not many thugs around because being a thug there is dangerous to your health.

She "might" not make the Shooters Journal, but I bet she could squeze off a round like you could before you were professionaly trained, and that is all that it takes to convience a thug to back off in most cases.
Would a different pistol and holster better fit? Sure.
Pack on, Mamma, pack on!
