I think the general unease goes back to reading Capstick and Ruark stories as a young kid on hunting cape buffalo in Africa, and how the general opinion is that they are the most vindictive evil creatures of the big 5. So in my brain I've related farm cattle to wild cattle. I've been around cows a good bit throughout my life. Not working on cattle ranches or anything, but hunting up in Canada they are basically everywhere. Whether it was gopher hunting cattle pastures, or deer, duck, and upland bird hunting where the cattle were. They've always made me a little nervous. A little over 10 years ago, I was with my friend hunting on his uncle's farm and he needed help because one of the calves had some kind of diarrhea bacteria, and he had to give it medicine. I think it was pepto mixed with something actually. It was our job to distract the momma cow from his uncle while he wrestled with the calf and gave it medicine. So we waved branches to keep her away, and she did. Until she didn't. My friend was waving his branch and she stopped moving. Her body locked up and and her head snapped to the right and she focused on me about 20 feet away and charged. I didn't wait a split second, I just took off for the fence and superman dove over the fence. Since then, I give them plenty of room.kb7722 wrote:So whats the story on the cows? Re: Shark Week
Now THAT'S funny. I'm sorry, but reading your post I was thinking about the heard of Brahma cows I had following me around on a project in Venezuela one time. They all looked at us like they were trying to figure out just what in the heck we were doing. Sort of like having a huge bunch of beagle hounds listening to you with their heads cocked off to the side - only larger.duramax wrote:I think the general unease goes back to reading Capstick and Ruark stories as a young kid on hunting cape buffalo in Africa, and how the general opinion is that they are the most vindictive evil creatures of the big 5. Re: Shark Week

More people each year die from being stepped on by a cow than do shark attacks!
