Working with banks and Credit unions in my past job, our clients in Texas would tell us how when times are good in the oil market (2-3 years ago), those roughnecks would blow money left and right on brand knew F250 King Ranch yada yada trucks and liquor. As soon as the market drops, their parking lots would be filled with those trucks after they were repo'd. I imagine they are starting to collect a few right now.
Though, to the point of the original post, I not quite sure why the significance of being overly proud of having a husband that works in the oil field. Not that it's not a good job and all, but why would it be different if her husband was an accountant or a manager at Kroger just as very general examples of normal jobs. I guess I'm not sure what makes working in the oil field so significant as to put a big sticker on a truck or on a t-shirt advertising that. I guess I'll have to get shirts made that say "Proud husband of a drug rep" and she'll get "My man is a procurement manager". Doesn't have quite the same ring as "Pipeline Trash", but I guess I'm not as imaginative with superlatives.
