Yeah but you can't take any chances. Crazy fluckers are shooting people everywhere. Better safe than sorry and I think they handled it well. Dude threatened to kill himself and others. What where they supposed to do? Wait til he killed someone?

My brother goes to school there. Had to call after I heard about that report. Have mixed emotions about the "active shooter" thing. Read where they always err on the side of caution on even the smaller things because you never know. Guess in a way it was okay because it let people know it was something that could be serious and to take cover. The last thing you want to do is down play the situation and still have people walking around in harms way if they see something and think its not that big of a deal.

I'm fine with it. Twitter has just been blowing up today with negative comments on how the university handled the situation, causing more "panic and dangerous" situations than what it actually was. My buddy was on the fifth floor of the library. Pretty much had a front row seat for it all. Said it was mad chaos.

I wonder how many false "active shooter" alerts it would take before students and faculty are conditioned to ignore them?

The Twidiots saying there were people dead and that there'd been shots fired are the ones to blame.

maybe i see things differently now that i have children of my own, but how in the world can anyone say State and the LEO's involved handled this anyway but flawlessly? it's beyond me why we are concerning ourselves with semantics pertaining to "active shooter" or "gunman" or whatever other way you want to call it.......the pissant was disturbed and i'll say it, quite frankly, the "illegitimate child" is evil. State and the LEO's acted as quickly as humanly possible as near as i can tell.
honestly, i don't think i could sleep at night knowing some school that my little girl or my son is on a campus at has a room full of administrative bean-counters and tenured eggheads more worried about how reporting some ass-hat threatening the students on my campus is going to play in the media than shutting down said ass-hat and saving lives - possibly a bunch of lives. if nothing else, as a future tuition payer, they BETTER worry about pleasing MY ass and not a bunch of freaking twitter accounts...
i say good damned job, State and LEO units, and that don't even hurt to say.

something like 16 minutes from report received to suspect in custody...no injuries, nor property loss.
pretty impressive to see all the different uniforms, majority toting ar's converging outside my window at bost and then immediately dispersing toward the drill field in a fluidly orchestrated damn hurry!!

"Active Shooter" status sets in motion procedures and responses.............they dont just make that up to scare people.
My daughter is on campus now and my sister works on the 3rd floor of Carpenter so i have a little skin in the game..........
I dont give a flying rip if they have to strip search every person on campus......................if thats what it take to find the "active shooter or threat" DO IT!!
I would rather everyone be pissed off rather than crying.
Personally, I think all LEO's did a great job...........tweeters can kiss my ass!!!
Just my opinion..........if you don't agree well you can just kiss my ass also.
Have a nice day.

I agree. Good job by law enforcement. Somebody with an AR and a few semi-auto handguns can kill a lot of people in 16 minutes in an occupied building. These no-carry zones need to stop. It just goes to show that there is no substitute for SELF-defense.

Coming from a person who has been within 20 feet of an active shooter I have no issues with the way this was handled. Any announced threat should be handled as just that and taken seriously. I comment MSU and MS LEO's for jumping on it as fast as they did to prevent any potential issues from arising regardless if he was armed or not. Some things you just don't play around with and a mentally unstable person shouting threats is one of them.

At first glance, it is easy to ask how in the world can there be an active shooter alert when there is not even a gun present, but due to the current state of affairs, no chances can be taken. It really is no more complex than that. If you are gonna err; err on the side of caution.
