Jdbuckshot, definitely look into the HSA account also. Not only is it a good deduction, but you can use it for anything medical related like prescriptions, glasses, etc.

This is America...you make money...you spend it on health insurance...you don't make any money you get it absolutely free.

The solution to healthcare is best demonstrated by this:

Image

It's a moving target of unlimited problems.

- We need tort reform
- medical device companies charge too much
- big pharma companies are the devil
- the gov't needs to make all the calls
- the "rich" have to pay more to cover for the folks who don't have insurance
- we are keeping people alive for too long
- ...

The list is endless and no one can really get a hold on it. Even if we got a hold on 2 or 3 major issues with health care costs being so high, it would take a long time to see a price correction in our fees. By then, some other issue would come up that drives cost up again.

The only way to save money on health insurance (if you and your family are healthy enough to risk it) is to have a super high deductible plan in case of emergencies. That's it. Most companies don't even offer such a thing. They may have a "high deductible" plan, which is slightly cheaper, but I'm talking about a 100% out of pocket plan up til $20k (or whatever you chose). You can find them on ehealthinsurance.com or through an independent broker. But there is the risk you will pay way more if your kid breaks their arm and "boom" there goes $10k in one lump sum.
