It just depends on the luck factor. We killed around 100 mallards in about 7 or 8 days and got lucky with 3 bands. 8)

Ya just never know.

We have harvested a little over 800 ducks and have taken 4 bands. All bands were killed within a 7 day period.

Once in college, I took the girl I was dating's father duck hunting with me. He used to go back in the day, but then he had kids and built a house and sorta fell out of it. Anyway, I got him and one of his buddies back into it. Except his buddy had a kid, who I went to school with and knew fairly well. One day, the three of them decided to go huntin' in one of the holes I'd shown them on public land. Now I didn't really have a problem with this because it was a well-known hole on a well-known WMA. Anyway, the long and the short of it is that this kid had never killed a duck before and none of these goobers really knew how to do anything without me around. As a result, they only had one duck come to the dekes all day. So they let Junior shoot his first greenhead. Hundred dollar reward band. What the heck??

There's way too many duck hunters that have killed LOTS of ducks over YEARS that haven't killed bands for me to believe that luck is the only factor.

We are up around 100+ killed in our group for the year, with two bands. We don't get to hunt very much though. I have been duck hunting for 14 years now and killed my first banded duck December 28. It was a Greenhead banded in South Dakota Sept. 18, 1997. On Dec. 27 my hunting partner killed his first banded duck, it was a GWT, and the funny thing about this is they came buzzing through the decoys and he shot one time and dropped two out of the group. How lucky can you be.
Kill em all and let the Gumbo pot sort em out.
Come on in boys, the water's fine!

As luck would have it, I killed another banded summer duck drake this morning.
