I thought I read some where that the majority of the mallard killed in MS were raised in the US paraire pothole region? Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Not so.

For Mississippi....30 years worth of data suggests....

Canada provided 53% of banded mallards harvested in Mississippi

US Prairie Pothole Region provided 28% of banded mallards harvested in Mississippi

In summary, for every mallard killed in Mississippi from the US PPR, there were roughly two that came from Canada.

DU and DW must be at odds again on their statistics. Whether true or not I know I was told that over half the mallards killed in MS were raised in the PPR of the U.S.

Sometimes when biologists and other "duckologists" refer to the PPR, they mean both the US and Canada. The semantics can get a little confusing sometimes.

All I know is that there is not enough of a focused fundraising campaign to protect the US and Canadian PPR ---by any organization. There is a lot of talk, plenty of warnings, and other scattered efforts as part of a more overall conservation plan, but nothing amounting to an all out assault, even to the exclusion of other conservation goals, that I think is warranted based on the information we were provided last year by both DU and DW concerning the PPR crises.
