UM and MSU fans arguing about which school has outdone the other in football since the early 70s (post-Vaught UM era) is about like polishing a turd ----- the records still stink to high heaven. Ohhhh the players who have come and gone had great character ---a few even great talent ---- but they have mostly played for pride and love of the game ---the "glory" has been brief and fleeting.

And before weedmaster gets all cranked up, we are witnessing the continuation of a long, steady inevitable downward slide of the Tide's success in football, the likes of which most Tide fans have never endured. In five more years, the Tide fanbase will be shellshocked, humbled, and muttering incoherently about glory days gone by, past accomplishments, titles, etc. -----pretty much like UM fans over the last many moons. But, at least UM and UA have something to reminisce about.  (As a footnote, I should add that I am not old enough to really have much to reminisce about, since my days as a young Reb fan began in the late 60s and early 70s ---tail-end of Vaught era ----all I've ever known is frustration, dissappointment, close but no cigar, runner up, humiliation ---good thing I don't let UM football provide my self-esteem, or I would've already killed myself years ago).

Everyone has an argument !

Bottom line,..... If you consider what has happened in the last 15 or 20 years,....... Noone stands completely alone at the top, or bottom for that matter !

They are all,...... "ALL",..... about even,..... and yes ,.... I'm including the great LSU's, Alabama's, Auburns, (so forth, so on)..... you see what I'm sayin !

You pick one Timeframe, in one sport,... and you have an argument !

I remember feeling sorry for Alabama and LSU, in football,... in the "not so distant past", I also remember being worried about playin Kentucky and Vandy,.... again,.... not so long ago !

I'm a State fan,.....I'm not scared to play anyone, in any sport, in any arena !

I couldn't say that 25 years ago !

Bye !

Who exactly is getting cranked up? I got history, records, and trophies on my side. All you have is your crystal ball.

People were saying the same thing about Miami when they went on probabtion. They were saying the same thing about Oklahoma 10 years ago. They were even saying it about USC.

Remember, big boy programs go on a slide every now and then. As much as you'd like to forecast this "downward spiral" just remember who we are....it's not like we are Ole Miss. We won't be content with medicority.

Thanks for the predicitions again. Want to wager on who has more wins, and accomplishments in the next 5 years that you refered to?

BTW, did anyone get around to looking over that NCAA BBall record book?

"Who exactly is getting cranked up? I got history, records, and trophies on my side. All you have is your crystal ball. "

Weeelllll, UM has a little hardware in the trophy case as well, but it hasn't done us much good lately in the win and loss column . Now, my crystal ball, on the other hand, is in great shape, polished, and very reliable. I see hapless play, pain and agony for the Tide.

"Remember, big boy programs go on a slide every now and then. "

You are correct. UM has been on a slide for quite a while now, but is on the way back up. Good observation.

"Want to wager on who has more wins, and accomplishments in the next 5 years that you refered to?"

Hmmmm, Shula/Tide vs UM/Orgeron. I think we can hold our own. I ain't scairt. What do you want to wager? How will we define the accomplishments? Hint: beating the NCAA out of a few more penalties, hiring yet another head coach on the Tide merry go round, playing a regular season game in Hawaii, etc will not count as "accomplishments".

How about $500 says we have more wins, a better head-to-head record, and higher ranking at the end of each season?

I would throw in something to do with the SECCG, but since your team has never even been to Atlanta, I'll let that one go.

Put up or shutup! 8)

Webbmaster, if "putting up" means $500, then I guess I will just have to shut up.  I'm not wagering that much money on anything, much less an internet bet with someone I've never actually met.

But, in "Trading Places" fashion, I'll wager "One Dollar" ($1). Of course the winner would have bragging rights. I'll even throw in a hand-made marsh seat (made by me) to sweeten the pot.

But, to make it more likely that either of us will live to see the end result of the wager, we would need to shorten the time period ----- say next season?
