Haydel's Redlegs, or DR85. The DR85 is really the best call for beginners, good sound and easy to blow and won't stick! Good luck!

get a DR 85 almost every duck hunter on this board started out on one. Go to a park that has ducks and sit there and listen. Try to make the sounds they make. Practice practice practice.

Hey Slinger, You can spend a fortune on a duck call and not be worth a **** at calling ducks. A friend of mine asked the old man that works the duck call booth at Macks PW in Stuttgart which was the best call to get and he replied, "THE ONE YOU CAN BLOW". Everyone blows a call differently. If you could go to a store where you could blow different calls or try some of you hunting buddies calls( be sure to clean them). I do like the RNT hunter series for a starter call. The DR-85 is hard to beat for the money though.

try and go to a call maker. i know RNT and Echo are both great places to go and everyone is more than willing to help out. tell them what kind of places youll be hunting and they can set you up and you will get some free lessons from world champions.. start with a nicer single reed. you wont regret it.

I don't need a guide...I'm just looking for the right call.

If you want to be well prepared ... get two of the DR-85's or could get one and one of Haydel's 25 anniversary calls. They sound good and are easy to handle.
