Outboard? 4 or 2 stroke? Make?

I heard a rumor that Evinrude is coming out with a 25hp E-Tec this year. I've got a mid 80's 25 Mariner and it has been great so far.

Ive always been a merc man, but am currently running a 90 yamaha, which has been a pain in the ass since new. Never had trouble out of a merc. I bought the yamaha because it was about $600 cheaper than the merc, however, in your case if you can get a merc for the same price as the yamaha that is the way to go, regardless if some parts are made in china. :D

I'm the buddy kwakhed refered to with the 115 hp. hammer 2 stroke. My fuel starve problem, come to find out, is because I added an additional fuel/water seperator in line for added protection from water in fuel Had a mechanic tell me the 115 fuel pump wasn't strong enough to pull the fuel through the filter adequately. When I removed it from the equation, my problem was solved. When I bought my new 18 ft. lakesport, I knew there would be at least 3 full grown men in it with all the gear we carry. I also hunt the Ms. River almost exclusively and wanted a motor with enough power band to give me the speed we need for long runs and good bow lift for barge swells. Also, because of the design of my boat, all the weight is on the ass end of the boat. So, I opted for the 2-stroke. It weighs considerably less, giving me better transom clearance while idling or backing up and a better top end. Not to mention, it was $1800 cheaper than the 4-stroke. I've been assured that 2-stroke patrs will be available for my life at least, so that shouldn't be a consideration. Look at your boat design, determine where the weight load is centered and determine if the added weight of the 4-stroke will be a problem or not. If not, the 4-stroke would be a good choice- if nothing else than resale appeal. Good luck! 8)

The weight is the only downside to the 4 stroke. It will crank everytime. It may not be as fast as a 2 stroke but a few mph won't hurt ya.
