Hey triple 7 - delta Mud
I highly recommend you to GO FOR IT - TRAIN THE DOG YOURSELF == if I can do it ..... you can do it .........www.diehardogtraining.com my dog got his HRCH in one year of training and I had never owned a dog before ! You can get much further in training with your dog than sending him to a Pro. I just talked to a guy whose dogs been with a pro since 6 mos of age and spent $3500.00 so far, the dog is 2 and still doesn't have one pass at a Hunt test. THere are lots of amateurs at HRC clubs that offer you advice. Getting advice is great, get creative .....and don't be scared of messing him up........figure out what you want him to do .....show it to him......praise him. You may have to get more help for force fetching or something advanced.......but YOU CAN DO IT !!! I'll help you any way I can for FREE ......... call me anytime. I wish more people were encouraged to train their own dog......this is not rocket science....... YOU WON't TRADE YOUR DOG FOR ANYTHING AFTER YOUR JOURNEY THROUGH TRAINING ........ GOOD LUCK !!

Delta,
You must determine for yourself if you have the time, resources and patience to train the dog yourself.
I agree there is no greater feeling than doing it yourself, but also under the right circumstances, it is equally gratifying to have a dog trained, with the right person.
You must weigh you options based on your abilities and availability.
By the way, I have trained a Chessie to seasoned in NAHRA, long time ago and I have a lab with a trainer.
Good luck on your decision.

Unless Mike has changed recently, he doesn't train dogs that are not from his stock. However, he has an excellent training DVD you should get. It will help you with your training. It is "Training the Wildrose Way" and you can order it from http://www.wildrosetradingcompany.com, which is located near you in Madison.

Do you get a free "clicker" with that order?

WR
As far as I know, WR does not use the clicker. Its not "positive only" and uses basic old fashioned amish style training.
