And if you really want to make it a beautiful gun go with the H&R 45-70 Buffalo Classic. It has the straight stock and 32" barrel with case colored receiver. Not to mention, with the lever evolution ballistic tip bullet it will put 3 shots in a hole about the size of a half dollar at 100 yds.

Muddy Boots wrote:Get you some Hornaday Lever Evolution bullets in 45-70 in 325 grain. They shoot alot flatter than the others and they really do the job. They are about $27 something at Academy in Jackson.

That's the bullet I've been told to get for that gun. So I got the rifle, a box of shells, and a scope rail and walked out of Big Buck for $206. The ole man was so damn tickled, we left there and went to the new Gander Mtn. and he bought a new scope for it. We got home, mounted the scope, put the laser bore sighter on, and 7 shots and two pretty tender shoulders later, we had that bad boy drivin' nails at 75 yards. He told me that I shouldn't have done that for him, but I could tell he was damn proud that I did. Just a small way of saying thanks for all he's done for me all these years. Hopefully, good lord willing, we've got alot of years of hunting together left.

I bought the NEF in .444 marlin. It is a little quicker and flatter. Plus I am reloading 180 grain bullets at .44 mag velocities (about 1500 fps) so my girlfriend can shoot it without hurting her shoulder.
