Back in my Benelli days, a sure cycle was the only way I could get those guns to go "BANG" more than once.

I decided to use my 390 for the first time this season because I let my buddy borrow my 870. Well, someone had borrowed the 390 w/o my knowledge and submerged it underwater, damn thing was rusted from barrel to stock on the inside. Fired one shot at a teal and the gun locked up. Got to looking at it and saw what was wrong.

Thanks again for the info. I appreciate it. Hope it doesn't come to replacing the stock spring :( ... I'm gonna give it a real good cleaning and cross my fingers. Got a reliable pump gun to get me through the season if it turns out to be a serious problem. Just enjoy shooting that auto.

Backwater, et al..

What I did was make a hone by cutting a slot in a piece of 3/8" (iirc) wood dowel, and stick some emory cloth in it, the attach to a drill. I "honed" all the rust out, cleaned the parts good with kero, then soaked them all in 90 wt gear oil. The thing hasn't missed a beat since. I am going to get a sure cycle one day, but I have too many other gun projects on my bench. Maybe after this season I wil get around to it.

One other improvement I did to my 390 is I sent it to Walter Birdsong(outside Jackson MS) to have it finished in "Black T"(the gun was 1 season old when I did this). For those not familiar with this process, it is a high performance, nearly water proof finish. It is rated at something like 1400 hrs in a salt water spray. Much more than any typical use will ever see. The cost is not all that great, but there is a 3~4 month lead time.

Forget the pumps! with a couple minor mods you can make that 390 bulletproof, and not get "tennis elbow" during duck season!

I also have had my beretta to not eject the shells because of the piston spring in the forend. One time I forgot to put it back on the gun, the other time I had it in backwards.

Vman I can shoot a pump faster than you can shoot that auto and still kill ducks. I've seen you shoot. HAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

TORCH I DID FORGET HOW MUCH EXTRA HAND PUMPING PRATICE YOU'VE HAD. YOU MIGHT COULD GET ME WITH SPEED BECAUSE OF THAT BUT DON'T QUESTION THE SHOOTING EYE ITS DEADLY. SNAPPERHEAD. AAAAHAHAHA. VMAN

I didn't know you could put the spring in Backwards. I've never seen the spring on a 390, how do you tell if it's backwards or not?

Thanks.

He must have meant the piston, because there is no difference in either end of the spring.
