Shimano.Shimano.Shimano.Shimano.Shimano. and if you are in doubt, Shimano.
This may date me as an old fart but I will tell it anyway. I bought my first Shimano. A Batam Mag when they first introduced the dial in magnetic spool. I think that was somewhere around '85. Fished it every year as my primary untill I decided to buy three more reels (All Shimano, various models) but I keep it in the rotation and used it as much as any of the other reels. Last year in 07' (yep that's 22 years) took it to Big Buck because a screw in the frame fell out and I thought that it might be a good time for the reel to have it's first tune-up. Some of the "Kids" there didn't know if you could find parts for it since they had never seen one before. Finaly the dept manager came over took a look at my reel and assured me they could get a screw and get my reel back in action then he turns to the guy he was helping at the reel counter and said "this feller here has a Shimano thats over twenty years old and he is just now having it redone, now do what I said and buy the Shimano and put that other crap down."

Shimano, I have 7 curados and 3 of them are over 10 years old with no problems. I do alot of fishing with them and don't service them but maybe once a year maybe 2 years.

If I were to walk in bass pro and buy a reel tomorrow then it would be the Shimano Chronarch or a Curado. I have an Quantum Energy PT(before they went gay colored) and love it as well.

I've got a Shimano Batam on a fightin' rod. They look about like brand new. Wish they kept making them.

I dont bass fish a whole lot, but fish for specs. reds, and flounder just about every weekend. I hate to say it but the Shimanos I have owned all have let me down...when they were working they were the best thing since sliced bread. I started with a Corsair...problems..sent back to the company, they replaced....same problem...bought a new Calcutta...worked good then problems...sent back, fixed.....then more problems....brother-n-law gave me a new Calcutta...fished...worked great....broke down..and I gave up....my $50 Abu Garcia has outperformed all three combined and I have run it through the ringer....I think Shimano baitcasters just dont care for me....however I own a spinning reel manufactured by Shimano thats the cats booty; never had a problem!!!

chattahoochee wrote:What baitcaster do you guys recommend? I need to buy some new ones for bass. I haven't bought one in so long I need to know what is good. Are pinnacle's any good?
A pinnacle is not terrible for the money. I would not fish strictly with a pinnacle. I would make sure I had a couple of other reels rigged up with me. I have one(pinnacle), and I am always taking it apart and oiling it down, but I never had any major problems with it. I prefer a Quantom Energy PT or Accurist. If I were you, and you plan to fish a lot, I would spend the money on some good reels and keep them clean. Pflueger President is never a bad choice!

I have been skeptical about the pinnacle reels being that they are pretty cheap at walmart. I'm either going to end up buying a shimano, quantum,or pflueger. I fish almost every weekend so a good quality reel is necessary. thanks for the responses guys. WE NEED A FISHING FORUM.

Curados have been my choice and seem to have been the most durable but they do not float very well......got a couple in the bottom of Caroline if you can find them
