This helped me too. HOWEVER!! Three very important words to cure it quick - - - 'get the shot'. Trust me on this, it is well worth it.

I'll second the advice on the bleach. The secret is that you have to take a washcloth and scob it up real good before you put the bleach on. Bleach is best applied with a cue tip when working around sensitive areas. It will sting a little bit but relief is instant and that itching $#!+ is gone within a couple of days.

i get it bad. i have gotten the shot and zpack and they have not helped me at all. I have done the scrubbing and then clorox. Clears it right up. My grandad would take me to the garden and use sand paper and then put dirt in it. Dirt would pull the poison out and then dry it out. I would not suggest that.

You guys paying for a Zpack prescription are completly wasting your money. A Zpack is an antibiotic and does absolutely nothing for poison ivy. The key to treating poison ivy is to the remove the oil from the skin as soon as possible. Zanfel is a good, but expensive microabrasive soap that will get the oil off and also feels good using it as it let's you scratch it...I've used it and got immediately relief of the itching. If your rash is more severe or widespread, a steroid shot from local physician would be the next step. Next time your nurse practitioner prescribes you a Zpack for poison ivy, ask her exactly how this is going to help and watch the expression on her face...

i think they are actually talking about a cortisone dose pack, that is configured like a zpak

I'm quite illergic to it. I get it about 3 times a year. Luckily it doesn't spread real bad on me. If I do get it bad, I get a shot. I use a poison ivy scrub (cytaphyl i think its called) for the local rashes that haven't spread. I don't take any antibiotics or anything like a zpack. I have my own opinions about stuff like that. I feel today's society gets sicker because their body is building up resistences to medication as opposed to the actual sickness. And now we have virus's out there that are resistant to our medication because doctors are handing out perscription medicine for the common cold. It's reverse evolution. I will now get off my soap box.

I was at reading the other day about all the benifits of green tea, and one of the things you can do is use it to treat rashes for itch. I guess its similiar to when you put tobaco on a wasp sting, but i dont know if it would work with poison ivy.

SHOT and it is starting not to work like it used to.
