There is still a market for local one way flex paging networks in my opinion but the gsm (and ultimately gprs) networks were this kiss of death for nationwide two way text messaging networks (Reflex 50 and 25). Yes, pagers have better in building penetration and redundant points in the network in the event that a site goes off of the air. The odds are that there is another transmitter that will still hit you since these networks simulcast and key up at precisley the same time using the gps clock and this is ultimately set by the atomic clock. Paging networks are ideal for low volume data transfer for telemetry applications (machine to machine) for developers who want to change a parameter or set a function in a controller on or off remotely (irrigation systems, utility companies curtailing power usage by increasing set points on residential thermostats, etc.). Additionally, low range paging networks are still widely used in hospital settings where the transmitter is on-site.

Anyhow...that's my limited knowledge on the subject, i'll never carry another one if I can help it

Your right the Telemetry stuff is pretty cool.. Pages your Meter readings to the central office.. Also we use them in Home Security systems instead of phone lines to send the alarm signal to the monitoring office.. They can also be used to turn on/off lights at ballparks, or notify a vending machine co that the machine needs restocking.. All kinds of applications.. Oh yeah, and to let you know when your table is ready at your favortie resturant..

We also are a reseller for Cell Phones so we do get income from that.. BTW the company is Debt free.. We are a cash cow..

I meant cool in that it is the future of bringing in revenue to the company...

My wife is a special Procedure Tech in the Heart Center, and she on call about 18 days a month, Let me tell you, they may pay you to carry it, but she cant ever ride anywhere with me thats over 20 min from the hospital, even if its to go fishing down at the creek! i hate pagers, especailly when they go off at about 10:45 of Friday night

Me too I work for CSX railroad and i'm on call 12 out of 14 days 24/7 and i carry one but hate it.. Especially at 10:45 on friday night
