It seems everybody likes the hire except for #1.
I think Byrne made a good choice and probably made it with the intention of telling Polk, "Hey, I'm the AD here." If Polk hadn't of been so public about his wishes for Raffo to get the gig then Byrne mightnotta went with Cohen. I think the guy just wanted to make the hire on his own. Like sand through the hourglass so are the days of our lives.

Who's to say that Raffo wasnt the best choice for the job? Im not neccesarily saying he was, but I do believe they should have given him the opportunity. He has been a bulldog for 20 years, unlike the other candidates. Is his resume the best? Well, he has been the assistant at MSU for like 15 or so years, and helped us to several Omaha appearances. And why are we so hung up on this head coaching experience....the people we choose to run our country dont have Presidential experience, yet we ask them to be Presidents. Cohen will probably have a great career at MSU, at least I hope he does...

He talked to the three coaches behind Byrne's back. He basically ran Casey and Smith away........Cohen didn't get bluffed.
No he wouldn't have been hired then either! I played golf with Byrne the week the team was in Omaha. He said then no way. That was a year ago this coming week! Im not wild about the way Polk was done but, it's done now and Ron will just have to get over it. Is doing the things he say's he gonna do gonna make any difference? Yes it will! It will hurt MS State Baseball. Ron Polk has; I agree been MS State baseball for a very long time. He has no other interest in life but baseball. But, life goes on and the program will too with or without him or his support! I haven't talked to him since this came down but this is not the way a man of his character is suppose to act! I myself and Im sure a lot more will lose a lot of respect for the man if he continues to act this childesh!
BTW I hope Byrne wears a hard hat to the golf tourney next week! He just might need it!

Generally speaking, LT is still the AD for another three weeks. Ron felt like he should've been the one making the decisions.........ie let Raffo have the job. If Ron wanted Raffo to have it, he should've retired after the CWS, and Raffo would've been promoted because LT let Ron run every facet of the program.
Ron caused Raffo not to get it. Bryne decided to prove a point to the ole bulldog, and he did. Ron kept beating a dead horse with the Raffo deal. Raffo had been offered a couple of head coaching jobs in recent years, but he was told by someone (Ron) to decline the offers and that he would have the program turned over to him.
That's the only reason Raffo stayed so long. If Raffo was going to be given a chance, it should've been done after Patty Mac left.
I've always thought the world of Ron Polk, but he went over the line on this one. Everyone think back to the UK series. Remember Polk getting kicked out of all 3 games? He did it in an intentional, unintentional way to make the series a Raffo vs. Cohen deal. I don't care what people say. He did it because all everyone was talking about was Cohen being the successor. He argued two calls that weren't even close.......nowhere near worthy of forcing an argument.
Ron has always taken up for his boys.......that's a fact. But, there is a right way to go about doing it, and this wasn't it. You don't call candidates, and tell them they don't have your support and would be getting no information on the players, especially when one of them is one of your own. As the face of MSU baseball, why would you do like Polk said and let a candidate, whom wasn't the best available, have four years to run the program. Then if you didn't like it.....fire him. I bet that made Tommy feel really good. TR was caught in the middle, and don't you know that one time or another he wanted to tell RP to shut up.

Future Headlines: Raffo to Rebs as Asst. Coach..........Polk to Rebs as Volunteer Coach.
Now that would sure stir the ol pot.

I have never understood the love affair with Polk in the first place. I have posted on here before about the fact that in my eyes the program improved after he left never to coach again (and went to UGA). How many national titles does he have? That's right, none. Heck, when getting to the CWS he struggled to even win a game.
State needs to cut ties with this egomaniac. The way I see it, he brings nothing to the table. He has called State out, therefore, I think State must hold him to his childish statements. Give the man what he asks for. Nothing. Somehow though, I bet when Cohen gets them back to Omaha, Polk will in some way try to publicly take credit for it. "Cohen is my guy too."
I think his true colors have shown brightly.

I fished last sunday with a major contributor to State that seemed real happy Polk was on the outs and was ready for the Diamond dogs to get back on track no matter who was named the new coach!!!!

While it appears that Polk's name will stay on the stadium and the fence, another name may be in the process of getting removed from another building. It seems as though Raffy is mad about how it all went down and wants his name taken off the steroid center.
I have no probs with that.

Seems like they've backed off of the idea. I guess Ron made a call.
