Re: Lease Stolen!!!!!!!!!
"Stolen" means unlawfully taking something that isn't yours. That ain't what's happening. There's a market and often, there are unscruptulous characters playing the "game". Landowners, brokers, farmers and hunters are all trying to get what they "want". Obviously somebody is going to get the screws put to them. Usually it the fellow with the least wealth or the sorriest friends.
Don't hate the players, hate the game. And unfortunately, there ain't no signs of change in the game.

Re: Lease Stolen!!!!!!!!!
I think the government should step in and provide everyone a place to hunt. It is no fair that some can afford it, and some can not. And the government should cap what is charged per acre for a lease. Kinda like Exxon and gasoline. Farmers should not make so much money off us dux hunters.
And no reason Beretta & Benelli should charge $1400 for a shotgun. get real. There is not that much metal in a gun. and most of it is plastic anyway. Forearm & stock. Government should make them lower the price. $400 for a good automatic is plenty.
And shotgun shells. Since we are required to shoot steel, they should provide shells for us - especially those of us who can't shoot worth a darn.
Just ain't right....

Sometimes you just have to close your eyes, count to ten, take a deep breath and remind yourself that you wouldn't look good in prison stripes... and just smile at that dumbass and walk away.

Amen Judge.
Ya'll ever heard of Suppy & Demand?
Lodi if I came up and offered you $50,000 for your old lease or your truck or your old wore out hat, you would be crazy not to take it. That is what farmers are doing.
This is the system. Like it or not. Make the money or enjoy a spot while you can.

Re: Lease Stolen!!!!!!!!!
I have nothing against the farmers making more money for leases. I have no problem that people with the money are getting the leases. As someone said it earlier, if i had the money, I would do it too.
My whole deal is, I really don't like it when you scout out the private land that I am hunting and try to lease it mid-season. This in turns means that we do all of the work to get the duck hole just right with the perfect amount of water, brushing up a good spot to lay down to kill all the ducks. Then they find out who owns the land, they place a call, and the next thing you know, they are hunting your spot one weekend to SEE if they really want to lease it. You do that for a few weekends and BAM, your duck season is through.

Re: Lease Stolen!!!!!!!!!
Heres the deal there is ALWAYS someone who will pay more for what you have. 3 years ago I had a brake leased and everything was wonderful. The land owner on the other side of the brake leased to some guys that hunted 24/7. YOU CAN NOT SHOOT A TIMBER HOLE IN THE AFTERNOON you will ruin it. Well we let it go and the next group doubled what we were paying. They only killed a handful of ducks. It will take 10 years of NO HUNTING to get this brake back to what it used to be.
Now the land owner called me last month and asked if I was interested and I offered him 10% of what I used to pay. He said he would find someone to take it and I wished him good luck. He called the other day and said he would take me up I told him I wanted a 5 year contract and he agreed because it will take that long to get it back to where you can kill some ducks.
The lease deal goes both ways, I had rather get less money and have a group that takes care of the place than big money and ruin it.

Re: Lease Stolen!!!!!!!!!
I agree Torch but most farmers look at high dollar leases one year ar a time. This is my opinion but they do this because they honestly do not know if those dollars are comming back next year.
Re: Lease Stolen!!!!!!!!!
I once had a lease about 1 mi from a local store that had 2 holes and we paid 1000. It was a killer spot that year and we limited out almost every hunt. The problem was you could hear the shots from town. The next year it went for 7000 and they killed mostly spoonbills from what I was told. Did not blame the farmer though. He offered it to me for the same money. We are still friends today.
Re: Lease Stolen!!!!!!!!!
Every year thing for me! Both my leases went up , one of which was a free place to hunt 3 years ago.
