11But more seriously...MS is in desperate need of a tagging system...MO has had a tagging system for as long as I can remember...you used to have to drive to the local check station after you killed a deer...but now they have a tele-check system which makes it much easier. Also In certain counties in MO you can get an unlimited amount of doe tags but you have to buy each one for 5 bucks....It is a really good way for the game and fish dept. to make some extra money and honestly what is five extra bucks for a landowner who wants to make his property better by killing some does?

+1 plus i would like to see the rifle season shortened and possibly a shotgun system put in place, but at the same time not get to strict or make it to expensive where people quit hunting

Why in the world would you want to shorten rifle season?? I love to shoot my rifle, love to shoot deer. Make rifle season longer. Get rid of the goofy "primitive weapons season". If you want to go out and kill a deer with a bow, sling, spear whatever then knock youselves out. Just because you love your particular way of hunting doesn't mean that you need to shorten everyone elses. Hell if it was up to me I'd get rid of bowseason an let gun season start Mid October and run to First of Feb.

Not that its my preference,just look at the the states that dont have rifle seasons or have extremely short rifle seasons and look at how much more relaxed they are because not every jackleg is poping off at them when they get into 300 yds. i like shooting my rifle and I think there is a great time to use them but for the amt of hunters there are in this state and the ability we have to grow mature deer i think you shorten rifle season and kick in a shotgun season and running dogs altogether after deer, in 2-5 short years deer will act alot differently

Look at it this way....MS took 282,000 deer during 06-07 season (most recent stats i found) While MS boasts a population of around 1.74 million deer....On the other hand, MO killed 302,000 deer throughout its entire season with a population of around 1.4 million....but here is the kicker 214,494 of those deer were harvested during MO's 10 day rifle season......That means that MO harvested 15% of its total population in 10 days while MS took 123 days to harvest 16% of their herd. So when you look at the statistics both MO and MS harvested the same ratio but MO did it in about 8% of the time. With the primary method of hunting deer being the modern firearm, the peak number of hunters will be hunting during the modern firearm season. MO's is 10 days and MS's is 46...and that is why deer are much less pressured in MO and the northern states than they are down here in MS.....I wont even get into the dog running aspect of it......
