Shrinkage or not. He could have written me a ticket. I neglected to tell that my fishing partner left his wallet with his license in the truck at the ramp and the officers didn't write a ticket for that or make us boat all the way across the lake to prove he had a valid license. In short, the officers used good common sense and were very curtious and professional. That's all I was trying to say.

I got it...I would be grateful too. I've never been that lucky with a GW. With police officers though, I've had a much better experience.

Come on???
So breaking the law in the middle of no where is ok. And just barely breaking the law is ok, 1/8 of an inch.
Great argument Counsel

Well, that answers my question. Bullet was probably not the other conservation officer.

Come up with your opinions over the internet if you will. I was just trying to make a point that breaking the law whether it be by just a little or knocking it outta the park, is still breaking the law.
You guys sometimes sound like a bunch of women. If you dont like the law talk to the people Who Make Them not the guys that enforce em.
Don Miller I realize you were joking.

I'm not a game violator so I welcome the visit. If you hang around long enough I'll even save a place at the dinner table.

Years ago I meet keith while he was working, we became so called friends years later to the point that he see's me and says ok Dancin Rabbit(name of our deer camp) how many fish you been catching cause I know you and I know you been. Through out the past several several yrs we have meet numerous times on the river and at the deer camp when he coems to eat lunch and asst the biologist with CWD checks ect... and I can tell you he is firm and good at waht he does but is one heck of a nice guy. Everytime he see's me we talk for a bit and then he goes his way and I go mine. He usually checks my license 1-2x a year but always looks in my boat or back of the truck as thats his job! You are right he is tough but thats his job and I can tell you there are few GW that have ever been in Winston County(I been living there 25yrs) that have done the job he has done and put out the effort he has.

Bullet,
No disrespect from a fellow Statesman to another...the problem I have is when he caught the fish, he wasnt breaking the law, the fish actually taped out to 12". Now I know that an 1/8th of an inch shrinkage is a common problem when fishing in temps like we are experiencing. So if i was having a tough day on the water and caught a 12" fish in the morning, threw him on ice and got stopped after lunch, then I would be highly upset if I were ticketed for an eight of an inch infraction. I know some are going to say that if your worried about it, then make sure your well over the 1/8th of an inch mark...well thats a thought...but what about some lee-way in the other direction? Thats all im stating. If not, then get the biologists to make the rule for whatever they want the fishery to sustain, plus some wiggle room for shrinkage.

I have found most CO's to be nice reasonable folks. If you wanted to see horses rear LEO's, you should have tried to fish around Ingalls Shipyard right after 9/11. Its the only time I have ever been boarded and had machine guns pointed at me. They were MP's, though. "Please take the 3 flounder and the diet cokes, shoot me if you have to, but if you impound the dog my wife will kill us all!"

i ran into Keith last weekend on Sardis too. If its the same guy, he was really nice. But he is young, and there is still plenty of time for him to learn to hate his job and hate all the jerkish people trying to do illegal stuff with dangerous objects that he has to deal with on a daily basis.
I have worked in public service before, so i have compassion towards those who choose it as a job. It is tough not to be de-sensitized when you deal with the public at large.
my two cents are - as long as you follow the rules, you have nothing to worry about. If you dont like the rules, then try and change them.
