A couple of corrections from previous post. She did get her NP degree, and also I meant to say if for some reason I could NOT earn my potential earnings any more.

I do feel that my industry is safe, and that my job is extrememely secure. I also feel that nothing is guaranteed, there's no reason not to have additional security.

My wife just graduated this year and is working in Jackson with a Inventional Pain Doct. I can tell you it is worth...She graduated from Womens in columbus, it is very hard to get in, and its very competive. Your wife can make as much as she wants. It just depends on how her negotiation skill are and whether she will be able to bill or get quartley production bonuses or not. I've heard where some of these nurse practioners that just graduated took the first thing that was offered and signed a contract and now realized they got screwed..So if she does go back and make it thru be sure to tell her to don't take the first thing offered cause these docs want to get them at the lowest rate possible but want to work them like a partner so just keep that in mind. My wife did very well on her negotiations and her contract and her first year with bonuses will make six figures!!!!It's all in the way the contract states.....

Youll need to look into the grants!!! They are for folks in rural counties (which is most of the state) and when you finish you must work in MS!!! for a ceratin period of time!!! I will ask my wife to get the name of the grant!!! Also, on line NP courses are available from many schools, we wouldnt have been able to do it any other way. A lot of time in NP school is clinical hours...

NP's can NOT write scripts for all drugs in MS. They get several classifications but not all of them. If you see them doing it in the ER where you work they are likely being signed off by an MD sometime after the fact.

They do it depends on if they have their DEA # or not and what type of field they are in is to whether or not it throws up a red flag or not...Some NP's have priviledges to write scripts but only certain ones if they don't have their #...

Just as certain MDs cannot write for everything...

The DEA# dictates what level narcotics they can write. Keep in mind when you say "Write everything" that is a broad statement. Cocane could be dispersed with if you had the correct DEA# ????

But most of your NP's can right the majority of perscriptions that the everyday individual needs to better the quality of life, allergies, high blood pressure ect.. Their restrictions come in when it concerns drugs that have a high abuse factor. Kelli can write scrips for just most pain meds but that doesnt mean she likes to. And to cover her butt, she refuses to call them in after office hours. Demerol, percacet, vicaden, all those are ones she prescribes regulary but keep in mind the field she is in, Ortho/Spine. When she first started she worked in a General Practice and she never wrote a script for any pain meds. Funny thing is she wrote a ton for Viagra HAHAHAHAHA... I often laugh at her when she comes in complaining about people with stiff backs... I tell her she could always go back to an office full of limp peckers...

You see ones out there that have their own clinic but those are usually hospital owned and therefore have physicians supposedly looking over them. Get a NP out there writing Dilaudid and Propofol and see if the boys don't come a checkin.

True, a NP must be in collaborative practice and have the appropriate licensing in order to "write for everything", but in your first post you said:

which means thay can NOT write for all classifications. Whether it was intended to sound like this or not, I don't know, but it did.

My wife has been a nurse practitioner for about 5 years. She got her degree from Delta State. Most of her classes were on line and she worked while she was in school. She can diagnose and prescribe drugs including narcotics. She does have to have a MD sign off on all her protocols. She also agreed to work in rural health for 2 years. A program she located paid off all her student loans as a result.

Im a spine rep and know several pa's and np's. My b-in law is a PA for a cardio guy in baton rouge and does very well. Theres also a new school in baton rouge for pa's and np's. I think its a very smart move both financially and the 9-5 schedule. You also can take advantage of the free trips when she needs to get her CME's!

Yes they do....We got back about 2 weeks ago from a pain management conference in Jacksonville, Fl........It was free!!!!!!!
