Eli, you may be a genius!! After all the talk the last few years of overcrowding on public hunting areas, you may have given the answer in your previous post. If everyone has to wait until 8 AM to access the hunt areas there will be less people hunting there.
Dale told me back in November that you could put your boat in the water before 5 but could not acess the hunt areas. I don't know if anything has changed since then.
If you can launch your boat at any time but have to hold in the lauch area until 5, then what would be the advantage of moving the time up by an hour?
The comission changed the rule to a 5AM launch because of complaints by hunters on Malmaison about people spending the night in the holes or leaving the boat ramp before the previous 3AM launch time. I wonder if any of the ones that called down to Jackson last year are now complaining about the new launch time?

Skycarp--Right now I think all of Malmaison is a wade-in area---NO WATER!!!!! But not giving away anything, the real answer is yes. I went to MM twice this year and both times guys were lined up in the water waiting on 5am.

WOW, I bet the areas around the launches get pretty busy around 5, I think the GW should blow a big horn to send off the hunters like they do for the kingfish torneys in the Gulf, yeh a shotgun start, that sounds good. I bet when the weather gets real cold it will look like a crash up derby, must be a conspiracy by avery and war eagle to sell more boats and blinds. wonder how many crashes they had so far, Sounds like another efficient way for the state of ms to run things, forget about safety we just want evryone to have equal rights, must have been a liberal thought up this one, so much for waking up early to beat the rush. next thing you know theyll restrict it to piroques and canoes, hell well have the fastest rowers in the world, hehehehehehe

Your Boat that is NO WATER... Are you sure you can put your boat in the water before 5 am because that is what i was saying and then they said you cant start to put your boat in until 5 am. 18 boats 5 to 7 minutes aboat putting decoys out OH those guys that bitched last year they will all be bitching this year. GW is looking this weekend to write tickets to Leflore. Don't even think this means you can be in there before 5am. He'll get you.

I went to the scatters this mourning and could not get through the trail to access the state land. Wasted mourning.

I would think that Leflore County has a legal easement to access their land at whatever time they please. I went two weeks ago, two wardens at the ramp and Dale was in the cut, went through the cut after talking to Dale a few minutes. Low and behold, there sit one of Leflore County's members on the public land already setting up, by the way I was the first boat to leave the ramp. What they did was put in, went to private land, sit on the line to 5:00, and went right to the >>>>> only 50 yards. There was also another boat notheast of that position. F*** It. No H20 anyway. No ducks. It's not worth the trip.

You can laugh all you want about the situation with the boat launch, but 4 years ago, I saw a guy pull a knife on another hunter because he was blocking up the landing and taking too long to launch. I have witnessed several heated verbal exchanges as well. You can expect more of the same with this 5 am rule. Welcome to the Scatters landing, Home Of The Three Ring Circus!

Sounds to me like it ain't worth the trouble to go there, if there is no water and no ducks, game wardens just waiting to ticket you, and a bunch of goofballs pulling knives on each other and fighting about getting
their boats launched. Who would want to go to a place like that?
