In all honesty I'll be very suprised if parts of coastal Louisiana aren't closed. I can't see why they would close above HWY 90 in Louisiana. Could be simmilar in MS and AL, but not the whole state.

Ya'll just send them poule d'eau on down I'll be happy to eat em.

You serious Clarke? They actually "hunt" the coots and not just for a joke?
It ain't rampant, but yep there are idiots out there that waste their time and money (shells) shooting at anything that flys by. :? Let a comorant fly over and every goose call within a mile will start honking.

Had some guys show up in the middle of our spread one morning at shooting time, confused because we actually got out of bed and got there first, so they go down the bank about 75 yards or so and set up. Then one of them shoots a loon and then after he has it in hand, he walks down the bank and asks me what it is? I tell him and then he asks if he should get it mounted?

It sounded like World War III at Reelfoot's Opening Weekend last year. The "ducks" were not there and people, present company excluded, were letting the coots have all they brought in their shell bags. Ridiculous in my opinion.
The few ducks that were there were flaring due to the barrage of gun fire from the coot shooters!

In all seriousness I have no clue about the closings but I did just get a text from my buddy who is at the Mississippi Flyway council meeting right now and he said (Don't hold me to this) that it is looking like we will be having a 2 pintail limit this year!! :D :D :D

pat said the same a few weeks ago, so i've been interested. in fact, we had a LLDC "reply all" thing going on it, frankly, i don't get it........

AND, you can bet your bottom dollar that if history holds true, in 3-5 yrs, it'll be "closed" or limited to partial season......

it's the way bean counters and pencil pushers function which seems to be pretty much the entirety of the USFWS nowadays.

They are not gonna close the season I have actually heard they are going to up the limit to try and keep the ducks from getting to the oil.
