Anyone ever thought Dad said don't go to state because he was hearing about money changing hands.

I know if this were my son, I would not want him anywhere near money changing hands for playing ball. Your reputation is not worth it.

Let's also not forget.

Rodgers is a MSU grad, he was pimping money from MSU, Newton and his father met Rodgers at, Suprise MSU. Wow, I would have told my son no as well if this is how thing were going down. Cam is one or two years away from a major payday in the NFL. Why would you do something so stupid when in 2 years 200K would not even touch is tax bill.

Also the SEC and Auburn knew about this during the summer. Auburn did its own invesgation way before season started and anyone knew what Cam would turn out like. Guess what, he started and according to Coach Chiz he is eligable to play football at Auburn.

What does that tell me. As much as MSU fans want to think they were simply out bid and bama fans want him suspended before the end of the month. The man is apparently clean.

If not, I will be disappointed. However, at this point he is not guilty. Nothing has been proven except Mr. Rodger tried to get some money from MSU. Apparently, Mullen did the correct thing and said no thanks and good for him. That does not mean anyone else paid him.

This my two cents.

Yeah, no player with pro talent has ever sought payment during college. That's unheard of.

Your take is exactly what I'd believe if I was an Auburn guy. However, it is VERY naive. Nothing will come of any of it, though.

To clarify, Rodger's is an agent, first and foremost. He was Newton's agent (see first sentence here - http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=5765214). His relationship with MSU stops with his having played there. Rodgers contacted State, not the other way around. Sate said "no thanks," Auburn did not.

Not me. I want Superman healthy and eligible. But please continue with the broad generalizations and convincing yourself there is no foul play.

I couldn't have picked a better time to return here. Thanks Ole Miss!

Finally, an SEC drama in which the Rebels are not even a player or on the radar screen. Although, I am certain that given time, someone of Gene's Board's ilk will use their Jethro-ish, double naught, Swindlerlogic to extrapolate that the evil UM is really behind all of this mess --- its always just gotta be Robert Khyatt or Houston Nutt's or Coach O's fault somehow. Once this seed is planted within the sheep, it will sprout as gospel.

Popping some popcorn to enjoy the show. Sadly, its more interesting than anything going on with respect to this pathetic season of Ole Miss Rebel football. Mercifully, my hunting seasons start within a couple of weeks and can't get here soon enough.

Question to ponder. With Auburn's recent incessant whining and complaining about SEC issues such as numbers of players that can be signed (and thus placed at JUCOs or "greyshirted"), cowbells, etc., will there be any sympathy for their recent plight from the Mississippi contingent here?

Ole Miss is irrelevant in this issue, just like it has been the rest of this season.

I heard it months ago before season. The price was 200k. Rumor is Mullen said he didn't get paid at FL and he wasnt paying him now. I wouldnt trust one of those pentecostal preachers fer chit. My opinion is dirty. Doesnt matter if daddy kept all the money or not.

I heard about this a few weeks ago, too -- the John Bond involvement and the $200k figure. I think it was during or after the UF week. A UF fan who knew Bond was overheard at the game talking about this or something like that. I never paid it any attention until this new AP report corroborated it all nearly perfectly.

2. guess im stupid, but if my son is lucky enuff one day to get recruited, i have no plans to TELL HIM where to and not to go. opinion yes, tell him, no.

3. why would cam do it if he is two years away from major money? ha hell good question....... go ask reggie bush and all the guys from unc and everyone else that does stupid crap jus two years away from money. the fact that he is close to major money for him not to do such a thing doesnt sale on me ONE BIT.

I dang sure hope most of y'all ain't ever on a jury if I have to face it. Hell the whole story ain't even come out yet and y'all have already thrown the boy under the jail. Anybody ever stop to think maybe this Rogers guy was trying to extort money for himself and the Newtons never knew anything about it? Nah, that ain't as much of a fun story. Besides, Auburn is on top. Somebody's got to try to knock them down and it ain't gonna be on the field.

I normally don't bite on all of the conspiracy theory mess like this, but I think there are too many coincidences in this matter for something not to have happened.

The most alarming evidence to me is that John Bond quoted a number to the AD of state that almost exactly approximates what it cost to fix Cecil Newton's church which was about to be razed if not brought up to code. That is circumstantial but alarming evidence to me.

Throw in the fact that the Newton's know this random guy from Chicago. Then mix in the allegation that UT led for Newton and Kiffin all of the sudden quit recruiting him altogether. Throw in the fact that Cecil decided Newton's destination, coupled with the fact that Auburn came out of nowhere to sign him. You then think about the fact that Auburn very nearly signed the TOP THREE running backs in the nation in one class last year. Then you think about the fact that Trooper Taylor has already been accused of secondary violations since being at AU.

It is not hard to connect dots when they are in a straight line...I think AU gets hammered over this and I also think this may only be the tip of the mountain with other players receiving payments too.
