I clean my 10 year old 3.5" Gold that I hunt with in 3 states from the start of the LA season through to the MS close once a year, whether it needs it or not. Never had the first issue. The OP has a "never cleaned the cosmoline out of the gun" problem, I betcha.mfalkner wrote:I've cleaned my Gold that carefully once in 3 years. Got her fixed, oh by the way, I was at Duck Dr's when I posted on his computer about the problem. I pulled the stock off, removed the recoil spring from the tube. the plunger that the bolt rides against had grooves or notches on it. I honed the plunger ribs smooth with emory cloth, put it back together and it works like a champ. Have no idea what made the plunger get scratched up

The round part off the bottom of the barrel that goes over the mag tube also has o rings that need to be cleaned. When mine did this that was the problem.
