Stihl. I had this same decision about a year ago. You can't go wrong with either, but it's easier to find a place that services Stihl. No matter which way you go, get the biggest you can afford. I've never thought "man I wish I had a smaller saw". I got the FarmBoss with the 20" bar. You can buy a bigger bar if need be.

I have a stihl 310, wish I had the farboss instead, much lighter and enough saw to do anything I am gonna do. That being said, the 310 was a free gift from a group of Pennsylvania guys that came down after Katrina so I wont complain to much.

I grew up using Saks saws but I don't think you can get parts for them anymore... I just bought a new 355 Husky Rancher. 22 inch bar is plenty of saw for anything around the house.

I have a few old C71's...they don't make saws that tough anymore.

I have had both and seem to be able to find parts for stihl easier. Now if stihl makes what I want thats the route I am going.

I am in the market for a saw myself and I want Stihl, but looked at Husky because of price. The Husky's are HEAVY. I decided to just save a little more and get a Sthil MS441 to replace my Stihl 044.

Stihl! I agree, if you can find a 30 year old Homelite that still runs, it will be a bad booty.

I dissagree about the 310 being heavy. There is hardly a difference between the 310 and the 290. I bought the 390( The biggest Homeowner saw they make) and love it. That would be my suggestion. You can always use the extra power for whatever is needed. The pro series saws are bad to the bone but you get no warranty with them..

The two pro series Stihls I have came with warranties...but they were quickly voided when I modified the mufflers.

unfortunatly i have recently had the oportunity to run the He!! out of both huskys and a still. i own 3 huskys by defalt, but the stihl is a very fine saw. i hate the gas and oil caps on them, but love the bar adjustment of the stihl over the husky. one of the stihls and huskys were same size motor and bar (jut 15 yrs age differance), stihl was heavier by a coupla Lbs. both will cut well compared to each other. i would own either one after running them side by side for nearly 20 hrs

We have a Stihl that is a 1976 model still going strong. In college Randy and I cut true cords of wood and sold them for extra money. Then we lived in rental houses where the only source of heat was a wood burning stove for about 25 years. That saw has cut a lot of wood.
