Interesting 549....everyone ive talked to said ford told them the programmers and chips are what was blowing the head studs and gaskets and that everytime someone had issues it boiled down to a programmer.

I looked at getting the 6.0 Chevy, but 9 miles to the gallon!! You gotta be kiding. I was looking at a 2008 Votex Max 6.0 liter. Riding around town it wa averaging 9 mile to the gallon, no thanks. My ole man has a '99 F350 Crew cab 4x4 singel rear wheel, 7.3L, we pull a John Deere 650 LGP dozer around all the time, no problems. Especially when he put a programmer on it! can't beat the 7.3L

Total bs. They said to run only motorcraft air filters, oil filters, fuel filters etc. Only motorcraft gold antifreeze, and distilled water in the coolant system. We did all that to no avail. IMO, this engine is a complete lemon. I have experience with several and all of them have been junk.
Don't know where you gettin your info from but since 2006 the 6.0 injected ford diesel built by international has had less warrenty/repair claims than ANY other Ford product made! Yes there were problems in the first years of it. It reportedly cost ford hundreds of millions in warrenties and buybacks of over 500 vehicles. But since the changes it has been the most reliable thing on the market. I still prefer the 7.3 but I need the raw power and don't care about the fuel milege. You only get that from cubic inches! But the 7.3's are all getting some age on em now and really do have some hard to start issues after several years. The 6.0 is the way to go if you get the newer version and go in and reprogram or get a chip for it. 20 mpg and all the power you need is nothing for this engine after an aftermarket chip is installed.
I'm getting my information from the trucks we have at work. We have over 30 of them with the 6.0. All of them are 2006 or newer, I think mostly 2006 models though.
Problems with these trucks are too numerous to count. heads, head gaskets, radiators, coolant, egr valves, injectors self-destructing, etc. I wasn't speculating, I've seen these problems myself. You couldn't give me one, just based on my personal experience with this engine. I love the 7.3. We have a bunch of 7.3's in 2000 models, most with over 250,000 miles, with hardly any major problems.

wife has the 6.0 Max in her SUV and its averaging 13.7 in town and 18 on the highway driving 80. That's alot better than the 5.3 liter in my Z71 was getting.

Not necessarily true. Were a lot of them tuned? Hell yeah. But I personally know of several bone stock trucks that started falling apart at 100k miles. Once you have the first problem with a 6.0, you better sell it as fast as you can. If you can find a good Job 2 6.4, pick it up.
