Take an old brush with tons of bristles and scratch the hell out of it. Kick your leg like a dog if it suits you. After you have had enough, apply straight bleach. It burns like hell but will dry it up by morning.

I always have to get the shot. I can't ever get rid of it without a shot.

lot of things "work"--but most of the attempts at "drying it up" are really just damaging the skin enough to change your sensation, I guess you could just use a blow torch and yes it will be gone and not itch anymore, the remedies to wash it off after hunting are a fair idea---but the main word is WASH, soap and water is fine..Oak ivy sumach(sp) are plants with the same chemical oil--the longer the oil stays on you--the more severe the reaction---so if your reactions are severe--it might be a good idea to wash in the creek (ie-asap) even before heading home...for sure avoidance is best--but accidents happen...once showered/bathed--and the oil washed off---it will NOT spread--not spread. it weeps and give the appearance as the body reacts to various locations at different time frames (can't remember why--just immune/allergy reaction)...wipe the weeping fluid from the lesions on all your friends--they will NOT get the POison--unless you didn't bath well enough and you left some oil on there...yes wives can pick it up off the hunting clothes(the oil), you can even get it from petting your dog if he has run thru it and has the oil on his fur, some documented cases of lung allergies from inhaled smoke from burning, but most people with high reactions are just known for a high WOOSE factor geneticly---naw ,just kidding...OTC tx, benadryl, and steriod cream--some anti itch creams can help...not a big fan of benadryl cream...maximum therapy--see the Doc,steriod shot and maybe a pk of oral steriods, benadryl(or similar), strong steroid cream...carry on

im on the methalprednisolone pill(i guess its a steroid) and nystatin and triamcinolone cream.

take showers often and cut long socks and wear them like a sleeve when I go to bed. Washing my sheets daily.

May go get the shot if things dont clear up quicker.

Technu used to sell a preventative cream. i stocked up years ago @ walls bargin center when i was at state, i still got several bottle left, i have yet to get the itch when i have had the presence of mind to use it. i mostly where long sleeves and really good gloves when hanging stands, between this and avoiding trees when i can that are loaded with the stuff, i have been ivy free for several years.

clorox baths help the itch, but if you got it really bad, go get the shot, and take the pills, its not worth suffering

There is an old wives tale that eating a salad made of the Poison Ivy leaves will make you immune to getting it. I am in no way responsible for anyone who tries this. I would like for someone to let me know if it works though.

And if you get it in the nether regions, all the pinch-and-roll in the world won't work!!

I've found that applying Germ X or any other hand sanitizer to the rash does a good job drying it out. It also works really well as a preventative if you apply within 30-45 minutes of coming in contact with it.

really crazy how that little leaf can cause so many problems, but I get it every year and have it now.... Takes usually 10- 14 days to heal. Shots and steroid dose pack will help it heal faster, but that is it. Everything else is just to help the itch. Drinks lots of orange juice and bathe in dishwashing liquid without a rag. get a bath asap after contact and about 4 times a day the first couple of days to prevent the spread. as long as the oil is in your skin it will spread. I seem to never do this and it spreads everywhere, but the few times I do this it is usually localized to one area.
