If Rolling Fork is wet, VP will be worse.

Well, that's exactly the reason I asked. But thanks for the sarcasm, not exactly what I was looking for while I have concern about our house flooding. I noticed that there seems to be several high areas near Deer Creek on the maps that DanP posted. We sit on a small hill right off of the creek, so I'm hoping our house (and neighborhood) is one of these higher spots. Maybe I'm looking at those maps wrong, but I can always hope. I guess the only good thing about Katrina was that it taught me how to clean a house out after a flood. At least we have some time to move some things. I'm not sure what's worse, being hit fast like katrina or the anxiety of waiting for this water to come up.

Coastrat wrote:DanP, do you have an inundation map of Valley Park area along 61 or know where I could located one?
Centerline of the highway at Valley Park is 104.4 ft-104.6 ft.
Church parking lot is 101.7 ft.
Centerline of hwy at Onward store is 103.9 ft.
Onward store parking lot is 100.8 ft.
Working my way up to Rollingfork. My computer cant handle this 9 terrabytes of data without passing out every 20 minutes.
Here's what i have run down so far:
Top levee (Mainline MS/ Brunswick Extension Levee) at Eagle Lake is from 118 ft to 121 ft. but where 465 levee west of Steele Bayou ties to Brunswick extension is around 106.8 ft.
From Hwy 465 intersection crossing Brunswick tie in to Hwy is 107.4 to 108 and some change.
From Hwy all the way to Little Sunflower Structure Levee is around 108.2 to around 109 east of Little Sunflower.

I just ran a 107 ft contour with this new lidar and the first high ground on Hwy 61 I found was 1/2 mile south of Egremont.
107 Contour picked up again on Hwy 61 one mile south of the split off Hwy 61 going into Rolling fork (where the old barn is).

This redefines "flood control" don't it?

We aren't in control of anything when it comes to that big river. How are you gonna handle all that! Third largest watershed on this planet!

CoE has started explosions in Missouri to breach the levee up north. 130,000 acres of Missouri farmland to be flooded.

DanP wrote:COULD be 109... The Yazoo Backwater Area is a big "bowl" to fill.
This 109' (possible) figure, does this hold true for areas just south of Vicksburg as well? I got some elevations on 61 south this morning on the way to work and am curious about the effect on these areas.

Talked with a good friend with the CoE last night. He said it might help us out by a foot. The only relief we'd get is if they'd blow the levee in LA.
