The series made Randall McCoy out to be a little b!tch. Is that historically accurate? Deputy Sheriff Frank Phillips was a bad dude, tho. McCoys would have been annihilated if it weren't for Phillips.

I just got off the phone with an agent in FL who was originally from WV. She asked if I was watching the Hatfield and McCoy's on the history channel. Her Great Great Great (possibly one more great) Grand Father was William Anderson "Devil Anse" Hatfield. She had some pretty cool stories to talk about. We got on Google maps and she showed me some areas where the feud went down and other places

I thought that was awesome.

I did not know anything about the story other than the general "famous for killing each other" legend.
Watching it a second time, initially to kinda get the dates right (gota love DVR) a lot of the details they "glazed over" and the individual names make more sense. It is a really good story.

For those that know the story, did Jim Vance kill the first McCoy or was it started over the pig? They made Jim out to be a cold blooded SOB.

Although the pig incident seems to be the one most people perpetrate as the cause of the feud, the written history that has been published all point to the fact that Jim Vance killing of Harmon McCoy was the initial incident that set the families at Odds.

That's actually not the "gist" of it. It's much more complex and entertaining. And, I never heard Vance deny that he has relations with his mutt.
No, that pretty much sums it up. If it's not, what would you say the "gist" of the feud was. Interested to hear your take on it, sure you have some kinda interesting explanation.
