a particual public land place i hunt has a bunch of buckbrush thickets, over the years duck hunting i have found out these areas are not only killer for late season mallards, they are killer for whitetails, big bucks will ease through a buck brush thickets in 1' of water and you will never see them un less you hunt the high up a tree from the edges.

there is a particular small vine that turns very dark brown during the fall and will completely cover a buck brush bush. i have built little over head blinds by trimming out the bottom out of a buck brush tree and throwing a bunch of this natural vine on top. it will usually take root and start back growing the next year. i ve hunted the same places, literally the same tree's year after year. it allows just enough cover to back under the top of the brush and be hid.

Aint nothing like a a working mallard flying over your little buck brush hidey hole and looking down for that duck that supposed to be there, and you show him the working end of your 12ga at 15 yds.

What about when the water comes out of the buck brush thickets and washes all the acorns right up on the edge of the hardwood bottoms and the buck brush thickets - Give me a Cold clear windy Jan day in those conditions and its heaven on earth.

We call that vine "bushy chit". I have hunted many a day with it covering my boat blind especially on the corners of the blind. It will completley break up your outline if you can collect enough of it. It has a puffy seed on it that will absolutley hide the hell out of you!!! It makes a hell of a mess in the boat but it works.

And before anyone says it, that som bitch with face paint on is 6'8" 290 former D1 center and has been known to rip faces off, as well as ducks, and dehydrate them to use as a cap so he can look through the holes in it to watch the ducks. Even so, he could have looked down at the water and watched them, but the viny chit behind him makes that hard.

That pic is a prime example of why you would not be asked back if you weren't covered up. I prefer the turkey mask. Here is another one:



Imagine a white booty winterized face in that; I don't care if your looking down trying to find your pecker, a January mallard is going to pick you out. It gives you overhead cover and puts us in the few poor little shadows that we can get, but by no means does it do what a blind does. And by no means are you going to watch a duck's reflection if he goes anywhere but out front. Cover up or go home.

God I love buckbrush hunting, it separates the men from the boys. I did sprout a chest hair, so I forsee a good season.

This is a hole that backs up when the river gets to a certain level, and it borders the thicket. Where the camera is pointed- back behind it is the thicket. Right where the fella who is taking the pics is standing is a 5 foot wide line of water oak acorns lining the bank. Notice the large number of feathers on the water...particularly around the decoys. I love killing those bastards.

When it gets this time of year, the wait starts to really hurt.

thanks guys for all the help! Another question i have... Hunting in buckbrush on the back side of a lake? do you approach this the same way? Reason i ask is because its a lot more water around it. Once again thanks for the help!

If the above 6'8" 290 lbs poo face is as big as described.....then that lab is 5'4" and 190 lbs

And while we are on skeptics, I video taped 31 on my gf's brother's phone in the phowler with the copperhead. I had to leave to come back to hell sooner than I anticipated though. It ain't 33, but it ain't 26. And I have a special little message for said ducksouther skeptics at the end. A special message indeed....
