Thoughts On Gov. Bryant's Ex. Order For BCBS To Play Nice?

Chaney acted in the case of UMC, because it provided services no one else in the state provided. Same can be said for a few of the HMA hospitals.

Digger,
Good questions and they can. The reason BCBS is so big is the huge market advantage (not for profit status) the had over a 40 year span. This allowed them to get as big as they are. That is correct, for 40 years, BCBS did not pay taxes.

Well, the EO has been temporarily blocked with a hearing set on the injunction for Nov. 5th.
JACKSON, Mississippi -- A federal judge Monday blocked Gov. Phil Bryant from compelling Mississippi's largest health insurer to resume paying its in-network rate to a chain of 10 hospitals.
U.S. District Judge Henry T. Wingate read a temporary restraining order from the bench saying Bryant didn't provide enough proof to justify an executive order he issued last week.
Bryant's executive order would have required Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi to resume paying in-network rates at hospitals owned by Naples, Fla.-based Health Management Associates, starting Tuesday.
Wingate set a Nov. 5 hearing to further explore Bryant's claims of harm that patients would suffer if Blue Cross doesn't contract with the hospitals.
"The executive order leans heavily on threatened harm verified primarily by anecdotal assertion," Wingate said. "The hearing will determine the facts undergirding those assertions."
Wingate emphasized that he was not calling Bryant's order illegal. However, he said that Blue Cross had met the legal hurdles for him to freeze the current status and keep six hospitals owned by HMA out of the insurer's network.

Community is a disaster, Justin. They have single-handedly torn River Region apart. I have witnessed the demise first-hand. They have run numerous physicians off and nurses are leaving in droves. They are asking floor nurses to take up to 9 patients a night, which isn't even legal. Everyone talks bad about a company worried about only the bottom line... CHS is the epitome of that. The CEO of CMMC has worked her asss off to build that hospital up - taking over the burn center, adding a new geri-psych wing, starting a comprehensive multi-disciplinary lung lesion program, making it profitable not by cutting labor but by actually growing labor (new concept, I know). It sickens me to think about what CHS is gonna do to all the things she has worked so hard to build.
