My thoughts on the posts above that Ole Miss can't be as good as last year because they don't have ELI are :
a. These posters presume that Ole Miss' defense will not be better this year; and
b. These posters presume that the only difference between Ole Miss' offense last year and this year is that Eli is gone.
Fact is that both the offense and defense will be better ON PAPER than last year in virtually every position, except QB.
The defense can reasonably be expected to be bigger, deeper, faster and more experienced than last year, with the added advantage of having fully adapted to the current defensive scheme. I do not believe there will be any 4th quarter massive breakdowns that cost us at least 2 wins last year, and almost another (South Carolina).
Because the D gave up considerable points, Eli's performance was more noticeable - He HAD to put up big points. I dont think the Offense will have to score as many points this year to win for this reason and because we will play keep-away better by running the ball.
The offense will be less Eli-like, but that does not mean any less effective. We have one of the largest, most experienced O-lines in the conference, if not the best. We should be expected to run the ball, even pound it this year. This equates to less pressure on the passing game by being able to rely on the run and by limiting T.O.P., thus points, for the other team. Throw in a potent run threat from the QB and a stong arm, and you don't
need the heroics that only Eli can supply.
Yes, last year we came out on top in most close games and we probably could not have done it wiothout Eli. This year, you should expect fewer 35-34 games and more 21-20 games. Will Ole Miss win these games? We shall see.
It is a hell of a lot more fun argueing whether we will be as good as last years 10 win team than it is wondering if we will be better than last years 2win team!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Has GH22 given his infamous preseason analysis yet?
