Not really a foreign name, but I think you are talking about Activ shotshells? Activ is no longer in production (that I am aware of), but were capable of multiple reloads. I had a handful of them scattered in amongst a big pile of AA's. They seemed to last forever.
If we're talking about the same shell, I'm surprised you had trouble with them. Must have been your gun?
