Do not start heartworm preventative on a positive dog with out your vets ok!!
It can cause some major health problems.
If he/she says it is ok, then do it. I know we told some owners to start simply because the positive was so light, that the preventative would kill off the micro filaria (baby worms) and they would be fine.

I've had her on Heartguard ever since, I actually had one vet tell me that if you keep them on Heartguard for 2 years, it will actually eventually kill all the heartworms and they'll be worm free. From what other vets have told me since, that's NOT true!
