My story is not as good, but is worse also - cause I couldn't SEE what was out there!
I was in the south delta near a slough and about to get out of a tree Saturday and had my light on and about 200 yards away I heard this sound that I can not even describe. It broke the stillness and sounded like a cross between a loud squeel and a roar! Kind of like it was both high pitched and low at the same time. Then I heard another from a slightly different direction a little further off.
It was most definately NOT a coyote. I have heard a boar roar when stuck and it reminded me of that somewhat but was much different also. Made my hair on the back of my neck stand up and I was spooked. I didn't want to let my bow down, but I knew I didn't want to stay all night either. The bow was my only weapon. Well I got down and kept my head on a swivel and walked out with an arrow knocked and didn't get eaten.
But I want to ask if wild boars have ever been known to "call" out to one another. Them South Delta big woods have all sorts of creatures in there, from bears on down.
