Couldn't have been a black coyote could it? Those actually have been proven to live in the States.

looked for tracks and couldn't really make any out that were clear enough to tell anything. Thought that I would be able to find some since it was wet but the grass was still tall and pretty thick. Nothing definitive. I DID kill 2 coyotes not far from there the other morning. Never seena a black one or heard anyone nearby mentioning one, but i guess it's possible.

I'm with the concencus on this one.. but my in-laws from Tylertown swear up and down they saw a panther (not a black one) prowling around some chicken houses. To stay in good with my inlaws, I have never called bullchit on them while telling this story over and over.
Deadeye... never seen a panther but crossed paths with a whompass cat one time!

I have encountered plenty of wild pu$$y in the state of Mississippi, and I for one am pretty sure that for the state of Mississippi we actually have MORE black than other...

Black coyotes seem to be getting more common. There are also wild hogs in the pine valley area, I have seen them. My guess would be one of those two.

On a side note, I did see a dead panther in Oklahoma on my way out to KS last week, pretty big animal.
