My first job was a caddy at one of the clubs we lived by when we lived in OH. Best money I ever made, did it every summer. 4-5 hours of work, cash in hand and lots of it, tax free, golf on Mondays, members getting you drunk, wives giving you he...lp.

Umm, yeah, it was great... Caddied in a couple of OH Opens, US Women's Am, US Mid Am, US Open qualifiers. I'd do it now if I could get on tour and didn't have a family.

Fred's Dept Store.

First day I stocked canned dog food. Alot were busted and I had to cull the ones with maggots on them. Held jobs of all types since then.

during summers from age 6 or so till about 15 was milk cows, feed calfs, wash $#!+ off the barn floor. Washing the floor was pretty cool for any young kid, since I had a hose that made the pressure really high. Those cow pattys didnt have a chance, , but after that the bank took the farm and I spent a summer working out. Then age 17 got my first real job making money working at a rental store doing everything from working on equipment to help planning weddings

I cut grass in Junior high but my first real paycheck job was a lifeguard at the country club. Then I laid hardwood floors one summer and then sacked groceries. By far the best was the lifeguard job I had for 3 summers. First college break went to work digging footings for slabs and now work for my dad at a welding shop.

For my Dad in his Auto repair shop.. First day of work I over slept.. (took the phone off the hook to keep the girls from calling too late and fell asleep so my alarm didn't go off) When I woke up, I called my dad (who was already at work) and said how come you didn't wake me up.. He said, Bosses don't wake up employees.. Now hop on your bike and get over here.. And your pay will be docked..

Worked 50 hours a week as a grease monkey for 50.00 bucks a week..

Heard a teacher in college tell about the origins of this word and the story has stuck with me for years. This is probably the third time I have a chance to basically tell the origin of the word with the use of wikipedia . Not as much detail but interesting none the less.

The term may have originated during the Industrial Revolution in Great Britain when children were used to grease the large rotating axles which were used to transfer power from one centralized steam engine to all of the machines on the factory floor. These children, covered in grease and crawling in the tight spaces in the ceilings, were equated with monkeys.

Two similar terms exist in the sailor's language, Powder Monkey and Rigging monkey, while in modern English code monkey can be a derogatory term for a programmer who performs only simple tasks.

Started driving a tractor on the farm at 10 yrs. old - because dad said so & NEVER made more than min. wage if that.... "got a roof, food, bills paid, 3 wheeler, etc... you don't need a raise and won't GET a raise until you start paying for those on your own!"
When I got older (enough to drive backroads without getting caught with no license), I'd get off a couple of hours early for baseball practice/games in 'nola.

Worked on survey crews from when I was 8 for my dad. Swore I'd never do that again. Spent 7 1/2 of the last 13 years working for him again, until he decided to try and retire. Only difference? This time I was in charge of the survey crew, so I got to tell the other grunts to operate the keiser blade.

Now we got "Crack Monkeys"

I was a towel boy in a whore house! Oh wait! That is my dream job. I bagged groceries in a "sto". I did cut grass in the summer before that.

Beside the usual grass cutting, 15 years old working as a warehouse roofer for a construction company in Tupelo. 60 hour weeks on a tin roof in June rolling insulation and toting tin. Not real strict on child labor but learned to appreciate the value of an education and A/C!

I had the same deal on my Dad's farm. $100/week works out to about $1.25/hour during the summmer. And I was happy to have that. I thought life was great...work all week and if you were lucky, you could knock off early on Sat and go fishing.

I am also glad to know that I am not the only white boy that has chopped cotton. Started that and other farm chores at about 10. I don't think that it is a coincidence that our farm started using round-up ready cotton right after i moved to college.

Drove a tractor from age 14 till 18 and off and on all thru college. I can remember in high school, plowing for 12 hours a day on 4 hours sleep or less......Dad took great fun in waking me up at 6 on Saturdays when he knew i had been out late.

First job was picking up sticks in the yard so my dad could cut the grass...hated that job(still do) I like cutting the grass a lot better, then moved up to feeding and watering the cows.

My first paying job was at our vet clinic scooping skit and bathing dogs, then I moved up to like half a tek. Hurt my ankle and couldnt be pulled on by dogs so worked at the local greenhouse for 3months. Went and worked there everyspring from there til they retired. Then once my ankle healed went back to the vet clinic. stayed there all through high school and summers of undergrad.
During undergrad I worked in Clinical sciences/Catfish health.

Now im in professional school and working in the Equine Intensive Care unit....
who only knows what this summer holds
