I have a question.... for those of us on the Mississippi...... in a year like this, where the hell is the water going to go ? we're already at 30 year records on the river.... seems to me like they're going to alleviate 1 problem which will turn into a bigger problem for other people..... JMO... and no, i'm not complaining, that's part of having river bottom land, in the same token, that's part of being in the delta too..... Rob has said multiple times that God was the first engineer, He intended for that land to flood (the river basin AND the delta)

The amount of water, more than likely, would not have much of an affect on the height down stream as it would be a drop in the bucket in the scheme of things.

why do people from Madison oppose the pumps? not really for or agin it just wondering what I was missing?

Doc, my guess is that the "folks from Madison" are interested in the effect of the pump on wildlife and the environment. I expect that the other attendees' priorities are geared toward their economic and political agendas.

I'm from Madison and as ignorant as the remark was, it's not bothersome.

The pumps issue is intriguing. And as an owner of land in the south delta on the Yazoo River, I have no firm opinion as of yet; except that "some" of the arguments made here are not logical.

I have talked to several corps engeneers as well as a research hydrologist and they all said the same thing about how much the river would rise. In a year like this year you may see the river rise .1 of a foot of the Vicksburg gauge. .2 tenths maybe but highly unlikely.

To the Madison boy I wasn't bashing Madison just saying where the folks were from. I have camps on both sides of the affected area. One one the North side of the structure and one on the south side. So I get hit from both directions so I am not just biased for my Valley Park camp just going off of what I have experienced in the last 25 years.

Yall have fun, I headed to MO to kill a bird!!!!!!!!!!!

peewee wrote:From my observation 99% of the people opposed to the pumps had no direct connection with the south delta. The were folks from NO and Baton Rouge taken up time talking about levees failing in NO and the Corps is a bunch a lying hipocrits. Most of the folks from MS that opposed the pumps seemed to be from MADISON. Now does that surprise you  .

Be assured you can find folks in Madison who disagree with each other on this matter as well. Madison County folks may well disagree with each other on a more frequent basis than in any other county in MS.

Good luck in MO!

I just don't buy it.... if that's the case, then waterflow from the ohio, missouri, red, arkansas, white, etc rivers wouldn't matter either.... you're talking about collecting runoff from the entire northern half of mississippi and western tennessee.....

14000 cubic feet a second is nothing compared to the water coming down the Mississippi. You would never notice it downriver! I spec the Mississippi is carrying around 3 million cubic feet a second right now!

I think the pic I saw was taken the 6th or 7th. 3 bears in a tree.

I believe one of those Madisonians was an honorable MSDucker.
