I wouldn't own anything but a Z71. I've had 6 over the years, and had no trouble at all with them. I put 320,000 miles on the first one I had, and never did anything to the motor except change the spark plugs at 186,000 miles. I did rebuild the transmission in that truck at 270,000 miles, but I feel like I got my money out of it. Oh, I sold it to a friend, and it is still running today. It was a '92 model Z71.

Seems like anyone who owned a z71 between 98-2005 had to put a tranny in one. Friend had a 2000 tahoe that started slipping at 12K miles. Seems like a common thing.

nothin against chevy but had 3 fords now, and my current 2004 has 79000 miles on it.... no problems yet, and never had any problems out of my other ones as long as i had them. Not knockin chevy just never had a reason to try something else other than my old Ford.

If'n it ain't broke don't fix it kinda deal... I'll keep buyin f150's till Ford gives me a reason not too.

Agreed, but I think it started a few years earlier like 94-95. I know most of us that tore them up were young guys that pulled and got in the mud, but the thing that made me really think it wasn't just operator error was when parents of friends had to rebuild them in the 2wd family Surburban.

I had a 97 z71 before i got my new one...I ended up having to get a new transmission at 150k. When I would drive on trips thirty mins or more, it would pop going from 1st to 2nd

I put 157k on my 03 Z71 before selling it. It never gave me a problem. Now driving a new Z71 and would highly recommend it.

All in all, they are both great trucks.

Think about this:

Do you see anybody with a chevy tandem or triaxle dumptruck, log truck, etc.? No, they never were tough enough for the job. You see a lot of Fords though. Ever see a chevy backhoe or farm tractor-no--they knew they need not try that one! Hell, GM never made a diesel engine worth a sh**---' th leakin' straight from the crate Detroit--what an abortion. Nuff said. :) :D

Yea I agree...I guess it's because Chevy and Gm are spending so much time making sure they have the best quality vehicles on the road

As to the Tundra and gas mileage. I have two friends with 4x4s and they get about 9 and 10 mpg. Mostly in town driving and one is very heavy on the skinny pedal.

I have a 4x4 with the 5.7 in it and average about 16mpg driving in town and almost 20 mpg on the interstate. It is built like a 3/4 ton with the 1/2 ton feel to it. I like it, but have always driven a Toyota so I'm biased towards them.

worked a wreck with a f150 and a Z71 head on. Same year modle and both extended cab. The ford was in about 5 million pieces and the Z71 held up great. The people in the Ford had more injuries than the people in the Z71. So for me I'll stay with the Z!!

Ford's Motto : The best selling truck in America
Chevy's Motto: The longest lasting most dependable truck in America.

So to me that says. Ford's don't last very long and there is a bunch of Yahoo's that go out and buy another one..

Chevy Baby.
