Heard that one myself, doc - always good for a laugh. My personal favorite is John Calvin's observation that the problem with Baptists is that they don't hold 'em under water long enough.
Peculiar place, Geneva - you can still see the square where Calvin, Zwingli and the other Reform leaders executed the Anabaptists for heresy - by drowning, no less.

The real test is: Can people tell you are a Christian without you having to tell them?
Many times I have heard the rooster crow and hung my head in shame, knowing I have failed miserably at being a living witness for Christ.

Christian, saved by Grace(God's Riches at Christ's Expense.
Baptist. When I tell people who ask this Question. Those who maybe not either, esp. the 1st think that the 2 aren't compatable, I guess cause they usually laugh.
Wingman. I love and believe what you said. People don't have to ask, just watch how we live. Can't live good enough to get to Heaven, as per line 1. If people can't tell that I am a Christian: I need to get right with the Lord.

Southern in Southern baptist means we are part of the Southern Baptist convention.
Now wingman I really like what you said I talked to the youth the other night about that and a really good quote that I really lke says this>>
Preach the Gospel and if neccessary use words.
I ask myself everynight if I lived today for God in such away that people would want what I got just by my actions. Not alsays easy, not always done, but always try.

go24 wrote:Southern Baptists are one of many groups that go by the name "baptist". Baptists as a rule believe in salvation by faith alone in Christ alone. They believe the Bible is inerrant. They beleive baptism is to be done by complete immersion.
There are other groups that have these same beliefs. The thing that separates or should I say, distinguishes the groups, is how they do missions. Southern Baptist churches pool their mission $ and send missionaries around the world. It is called the Cooperative Program. By working together the Southern Baptist Convention sends/supports over 5000 missionaries around the world.
The reason the denomination is called "Southern" goes back to the days before the civil war. MOST of the churches were in the South. Several years ago there was a brief effort to take "southern" out of the name of the denomination. It was kind of like the vote on the MS flag. FEW saw any good reasons to make the change. 150 years of history is hard to forget. The issue was dead from it's conception.
Class dismissed

Southern Baptist churches are in an association "Southern Baptist Association" just like the PCA or the Pentacostal association or Methodist Association.... but this gentleman got it right with the missions...this is the key factor that distinguishes Baptists from "Southern Baptist" There are several other differences but this is the main difference.
BTW, I'm a Christian, serving in a Southern Baptist church.
