Governors Mansion was the best NY strip ever, but that was a rare experience

Love the atmosphere at tico's, but can't beat the Steak and hashbrown's at huddlehouse at 3 in the morning before a good hunt. better take some tp with you to the blind though! :lol:

I've tried several of the big names...Ruth's is hit or miss and Morton's just isn't that good. Anyone ever tried Smith & Wollensky's? I plan to check it out on my next trip to Houston.

I saw that someone listed Doe's on here....it was bound to happen. I'm not sold on this one, didn't care for the one in S-Ville. I'm sure as hell not sold on it if I have to go to Greenville to try it. After getting all of my chit stolen there one night, I don't think I'll ever go back. Dirtiest place I've ever been....can't imagine a world class steakhouse coming out of that chit hole. And not to mention that my friends and I decided that if any of were to sustain an injury, we'd flip a coin to see who would put the injured one out of their misery (this was after driving past Delta Regional Hospital). I must've just been in the wrong part of town, but drove all over looking for the right part and couldn't find it. Just my .02.

I dont think Doe's or anybody else is claiming them to be a worldclass steakhouse as you put it. You prolly would think somebody was pullin your leg when u see the place, its a old ass building in THE chittest part of greenville, they jhavent spent a nickel or changed a thing to it in my 28 years i dont believe, but that adds to the goodness. Check it out, the real thing is always better than the franchises. While the franchises i guess have the same food, the Greenville locations atmosphere cannot be duplicated.

Don't judge Doe's on the s-ville location, I wasn't impressed either but it is currently undergoing some major changes that should improve things greatly. If your in greenville again I will treat you to a steak at the original Does, and I bet you'll change your mind :wink:

I also had one of the best steaks ever at Pandora's but it is hit and miss.

If any of yall duck hunt around Charleston stop in the Three Way the old John Deere store they have a good un and about anything on the menu is good and you can brown bag it.

I am a pilot by trade, and have had occasion to eat MANY steaks all over the Southeast. Some great, and some downright pathetic. The following are my all time favorites.

Sonny Williams Steak Room--Little Rock
Doe's--Greenville
Oysterellas--Causeway in Mobile(get the crawfish hollandaise on top)
Ruth Criss-- Knoxville, and only Knoxville (get the au poive sauce with it)
Ye Olde Steakhouse--Knoxville (take your Lipitor or other cholesterol meds before entering, they FRY and grill the thing)
Creshales--Jackson (take a gun with you)
My house--Mobile (bring your own beer)
Charlies--Tampa (smallest thing on the menu is a 20 oz filet)
Jim 'n' Nicks--Birmingham
The Pan Pan Club--Stuttgart (it's a private club so don't show up looking like a duck hunter, and beg for admittance)

Is that the one outside of town on the way to Thornton? Do they still serve it in a cast iron skillet? It was always a treat to stop in there and have a steak cooked on a bed of salt in a cast iron skillet!!
