I agree with Scotty as well. I don't know anyone other than coonasses who can't already kill the number of deer they want to with current seasons. Yes it may allow some out of staters more time to hammer deer. In the mean time it will put more pressure on the bucks and make mature ones even harder to kill. And since there is no tagging system, it will cause many hunters to shoot more bucks than usual.

I would be in favor of an earn a buck system or at least make hunters harvest 2 does before getting a 2nd buck tag.

Or sell much cheaper nonresident doe license and tags and let em shoot about ten does

Heck you probably would not have to cut the cost much. It would equal more money and more dead doe. It is too logical. They would never do that.

I'm sorry I missed this thread and don't have time to read 4 pages of it by my opinion is this (i'm from out of state and don't really deer hunt in MS so it means nothing)

How in the world can the state shorten the only season that is anywhere near primitive? Primitive weapon season is a joke, bow season is the onlything that somewhat vaguely resembles doing it the old fashioned way ( I realize it's not the old fashioned way either though).

To open gun season early will remove time where the deer still aren't spooked and are easier to get within 20 yards. I imagine my thoughts are opposite of many, but it's the internet I can at least type it out.

yeah we'll see how it goes. i figure if it passed that easily through the house then it'll pass through the senate.

i called and voiced my opinion wish i could see how my representatives voted. :|

it sux cuz MS really has the potential to produce waaayyy more big deer than we already do but jmo it won't happen with things like this.

I don't know.. I think MS has some big deer, but in some areas the Doe to Buck rations keeps you from seeing the big boys.. They got enough does around them to keep them occupied and they don't have to travel much.... If the new season passes and more does are taken early in the season Big Boy might have to go searching for them a little more come the rut..

Heres the KICKER...these bill are basically supported by Larry Castle who is state's chief deer biologist. He is baseing his "overpopulated" deer therory " kill more deer" off DATA he gets from 1 million acres of private deer clubs his department oversees or suggests management plans .Huge majority of these clubs are in the highest density areas of the state. I am in one..His department is a joke and nothing but politics....They basically tell us how many doe to kill off of previous doe weights.....JOKE....Now someone is going to tell us they know how the rest MS Deer herd status is without any tagging system in place? that's what 99% of the state left?

Alot of gun hunters are bow hunters too. The state is trying to pit bow against gun...i ain't buying it.......I want my sons to enjoy the quiet bow woods like i did growing up. Lenthing gun season does not increase doe kills..it has been proven in other states.

This will not increase the doe harvest at all in my opinion. If you can't kill 5 does with 45 days with a bow and 75 days with a gun then you need to back up and re-assess how or where you are hunting. There are probably a lot of places that are overpopulated.........Alabama......check their regs and see if you think loose bag limits will help the population problem.

I wish they would just take rifle season out and have shotgun and primitive weapon season only and keep the early bow season

just dont think many more does will be taken.... let's just say that 10% more does will be harvested.... by the same token, more time in the woods will make more bucks get killed... and the two increases will probably equal out....

if overpopulation really is the main concern, then let's do the state & our bucks some good & just have a february doe season

i'm probably just overly angry because I am strictly a bowhunter & the new regs would really affect me in a bad way. however, i just dont think its going to help gun hunters in the long run either

there is such a growing population of bowhunters & trophy hunters over the last 5 years & it seems the state isnt doing much to help.

Add to the fact Miss went to antler restrictions a few years ago only ADDED more deer on the hoof since young bucks are protected....agree or not but its MORE deer..We all know deer get bigger as they grow older but i have always had a problem the state telling how big a buck i can or can not kill on my land.......i would love to eat a six point
