Also, to encourage attendance, and provide an avenue for some fellowship while we are all gathered in Jackson, I propose that we gather at a local watering hole afterward for a cold drank or two and some good grub. I don't know what would be most convenient or desirable, but am open for suggestions. OVP?

We need to get together prior to this meeting to hash out who will speak and what needs to be said, you cant have all speakers bringing up completly different points, we all must be on the exact same page. The questions will be asked on how better to solve the issues that the dept thinks they have. I say they really dont have much of an issue just the same people you mentioned causing as much stink as possible to get things changed in their favor. But we need to have proposed solutions to their proposed problems.

I am all for it. And we need to have our "pregame" somewhere where we could get it all put together without the temptation for all of us to get drunk and say fluck em all...I just know this crew. If we all want to get together at someones house or shop and get a "flow" to what needs to be said before the drinks flow, then we might accomplish something. Also, Po Monk, OVP is closed..yes it sucks, but there are some other places we could go afterwards. We can hash that out at out pregame...but im down for it.

You can ride with me if you want to. I'll also be taking some other folks with me. If needed I'll come out of pocket and charter a bus and make pick ups along the way. I'm going to do everything in my power to see that WE are heard.

Today I got some very interesting info about the politics surrounding the proposed draw. Now, I'm not saying he is behind the proposed draw but I find it kind of odd that our Secretary of State, who owns land in the Scatters, by the way and would stand to benefit much more than the public that he is suppose to be serving was the very person that signed off on the "Notice of Intent", draw in the Scatters. Go to the Ms dept. of wildlife fishers and parks website and see for yourself. Coincidence? :? Maybe, but I'm beginning to smell a rat. :x This whole thing stinks to high heavens.

So err...if I REALLY cared, I'd go...seems I must not really care...or do I care?...I'm confused Richard can you help me; since you have my priorities down PAT.

For the record I've had my fair share of face to face meetings with MDWFP folks. Wouldn't be my first rodeo. Besides, if I read correctly we were instructed to send letters. My god Richard, if they won't even give us a viable time and day to have a meeting, much less a separate meeting altogether; what makes you think top officials with the law making pens will take time for a heart to heart with lil' ol me? Or are folks just asking to much...hell am I asking to much...I'm confused again, Richard.

Searching through your extensive posts it does seem you could care less- like you said. So I ask, if you "
personally don't give a chit what happens at that despicable dump
" then why the hell are you even commenting?

I'm confused again, Richard.
They are having a meeting and giving people a chance to comment in public. You don't have to comment in this case, just do like Po Monkey said and show up to demonstrate your opposition to the matter and lend your support to like-minded hunters. Have you sent letters to the Commissioners themselves? If not, this is a new set of ears for you to express your distaste for this regulation. You never know how regulations like these transpire, it could have been from the top down, like Don Miller suggested. In that case, I doubt you are going to get people hired by the government (State Employees) to sway the opinion of the Secretary of State. However, perhaps you can get somewhere with the elected officials appointed by the governor (the Commissioners to help with your confusion). Nevertheless, it sounds like you have plenty of experience with dealing with the state and didn’t mean to step on your toes. I’ve read a lot of posts in the short amount of time I’ve been on this board and it seems you, and others, are passionately against draw hunts, and I just found it odd that some aren’t willing to take it to the next step beyond complaining on the internet.

Maybe next time I feel compelled to post I will just write something insightful like, "+1" so I don't get anyone riled up.

Good luck to those of you making the trip.

Richard, believe me my man it was all in jest. I don't get too rowdy over these forums anymore. Believe me, if I could attend within all means possible I would, but I simply cannot. I have, in the past and recently, sent letters to commision officers about what I felt was-and is-happening now.

I'm going to draft another letter tomorrow after work and send it out Monday. This is all I can do within my power for the cause, for now. Maybe things willl change and I can get off, until then I'll let the pen and paper do the talking.

If you have a truck full let me know, I will try to round up a few more folks and just take my truck! I'm in Georgia until Saturday morning, give me a call after that! I'll PM my new number!

Well, I showed up to the party a little late...I apologize as I've been preoccupied with this little thing called work (which unfortunately interferes with my ability to hunt as often as I want)....

That being said Po Monkey, if you could use any help on this let me know...I have a few ideas but I bet they have long since crossed your mind since my wheels only started turning on this matter a few minutes ago....

I do not hunt the property in question now, I have no plans to hunt it often, but I can GUARANTEE you I am not going to sit idly by and watch hunting and fishing access to public land wither and die before my eyes!!! This is not just about any particular piece of property, this is about a change in public access as a whole; a systematic change that will no doubt be applied to any public land within the control of the State of Mississippi. If you care about continued access to public land to hunt, or the ability to introduce children to hunting, then you need to take a stand NOW! If you are too short sighted to see past your nose and realize that these changes are just precursors to the future at your local WMA then you are part of the problem. It does not matter where, how, or what you hunt in this state or whether you hunt public or private land, you will be affected by these type of changes. The only question is when you will notice the effects of the changes.

So, I will be drafting a letter this weekend, and planning on attending May 19th (also a three hour drive one way for me), and doing anything else I can to assist in stopping this locomotive which has done nothing but gather steam since my buddy gator first cried "FOUL" a few years ago. You owe it to yourself, your neighbors, your children, and this tradition of hunting and fishing to stand up and say something, and the time for doing that is now!!!

To be honest I have never hunted the Scatters or Malmaison, don't plan to as long as I have private land to hunt. But if I wake up and decide wanna go hunt there by gosh I think I should be able to do so. I can send a letter but no way possible I can make the Hearing, because of work.

Plan "C" is starting to shape up now as well. I am envisioning an in-season, daily, mid-morning sporting clay shoot in the Wooly Swamp, featuring over water target presentations. I know I could use some in-season target practice and have a lot of older shells I need to shoot. While this might interupt my normal, after hunt nappy time, I'm willing to take one for the home team to improve our collective shooting skills. I've got a friend who could set these shooting stations up as registered targets, and we could start our own league and have tournaments. Maybe have some cool T-shirts and caps printed, after selecting an appropriate name and logo. The "Wooly Swamp Scatterclay Association" has a nice ring to it. The season long tournament could be called the "Scatterclay Tour". Some sponsors might be nice as well.

And with the help of my magic eight ball, I can foresee the general cost of operations going way up for some in this area ---attorney fees and expenses can add up --- as well as lease costs, especially come year end of 2010, 2011, and 2014.
