I am bias 100%. What started as a dog vs owner subject turns into I know more than you know post. I stated facts from an er point of view and never said anything about being 100% correct on all issues. What cwinkler showed was REPORTED dog bites which does not include ones not reported which would greatly increase if by law you had to report EVERY dog bite. This was owners responsibility end of my thoughts on this one. I guess every lab that was ear pinched during force fetch that bit their owner/trainer should be put down....... guess those numbers were not available at press time.

Well fellas yall know how I feel about this situation. As most of you know what happen to me a couple of weeks ago when I came home. So my personal belief is that it does'nt matter what kind of dog it is if it bites I'm not gonna give it another chance to do it again. Now with that being said I had 3 Labs until yesterday. Now I have 2. I put a bullet in my female yesterday for biting at my son will he was riding his jeep. Now this was not just a bite/bark just one time,she was about to come up over in the jeep with him. Lucky I was close by and kicked the S*** out of her. Did'nt think twice about it. I don't know why she did it cause my son did not provoke the incident. He has riden this jeep all over our property for the last year with her not doing this. I've had this dog for 10 years now and I will not tolerate a dog that bites. My wife was very upset cause she loved the dog but I told her what if she would have latched on to our son like that pit bull did to that 3yr old, which is how old my son is. I was'nt gonna chim in on this topic until this happen yesterday. My neighbor now thinks I'm crazy!!!!

Sorry for your loss. It's terrible when a dog turns on it's family like that.

I know that we all work with our pets very hard to make sure that they are well socialized and well trained. The last thing we want to do is have to live with the knowledge that our pet hurt someone innocent. Have you found out why yours turned on your kid?

Your missing the point. The point is not how many bites, but how they bite, and do they have the ability to kill when they bite... If a Chihuahua bites 15 million more times than a Pit Bull they don't have the same effect. It will not result in death.. That is the point. Pits are prone to aggressive behavior just like the Chihuahua, the dashhund and other breeds.. But the Pit bull was bred to kill, and the breeders over the last 10-15 years have made it increasingly worse.

People sure are thin skinned when they are set straight in front of others. This was not about who is right but what is true. Believe what you will makes no difference to me as it will not change my life one way or the other.

Sorry about your loss Nawteek I had to do the same thing with my Lab Gunner. Just refuse to have a dog that bites. But then I guess I could have simply chained him up in the garage and waited for my neigbors kid to come visit.

Pits were not bred to kill. The reason they were bred was to be a catch dog. They caught and held bulls. It was later in life that they were taught to hurt other dogs. The Rodesian Ridgeback is one of the meanest dogs that I know but you don't here much about them because its not many around. They were bred to catch lions in Africa.

I understand how some of yall feel but I feel a lot different about pits. I have had several. I did have one that I had to put down. He got aggressive toward my dad because my dad splashed water in his face and it pissed him off. I shot him and it was done. I have had several that have been the greatest pets that I have ever owned.

I have had several labs that I had to put down for biting. I had one black lab that killed another dog. I have had several to kill cats. Yeah I know, its other animals so its fine, Right? You let a pit kill another animal and he is the devil because it is what he is bred to do. Give me a break. We will all have to just agree to disagree. Yall like labs and I like bulldogs. Its fine. Yall train your labs and I train my bulldogs. Thats great. Yall will tell me that my dogs are crazy and might snap at any moment. The way I see it is that there are a couple on here that has had there labs snap. Its what happens when you domesticate a wild animal. Sure it happened centuries ago with labs, but it was the same with bulldogs. There are a lot of bad reps for pits.

You want to know about my dogs and how they act. Ask Warren or missed mallards. They both know how my dogs are. Will they scare you? If you let them. They don't mean any harm. They like to play rough sometimes but they have never even used enough pressure to hurt. I let my dogs have fun by doing what they were bred to do. Catch. Catch. Catch.

No you sir are missing the point. Dog bites are dog bites no matter how severe. Pitts by numbers do the most damage if you wanna say that due to their ability to do so and the MEDIA loves to make light of this breed do to what some do with them which is inhumane. As stated above dogs snap and it doesn't matter the breed from lab to pitt. Could the above mentioned lab killed??? Maybe maybe not but his FATHER WAS SUPERVISING HIM AND NOT ALLOWING HIM TO RUN THE STREETS ALONE IS THE POINT.

And the law stated chiwawa or pitt if it shows aggression it should be reg as such as to if it bites one or 100. I don't disagree that a pitt bite is worse but there are worse breeds out there that don't get the attention and as MSDUCKMEN put pot there you can youtube anything. Rotts have more pounds per square biting power than pitts.

I was simply stating that in the ER we see many more bites from other breeds especially labs and some are very severe and would have made the news probably had no1 been around to SUPERVISE.

Agree to disagree we all have opinions it is just that the numbers posted are somewhat skewed in most dog bites are not reported. MOst fatal... yes I agree with pitts ruling.

Oh and pitts were not designed to or bred to kill.... All dogs killed at one time or another which is why they have canine teeth. They were bred to fight as german shepherds were to attack etc etc.

The title of this thread was "3 year old killed by Devil Dog".. So we are not talking about biting here.. Biting and killing are two different things. If I had to choose, I would rather be bit by a dog than killed by a dog. I think everyone would agree to that..

If you want to talk about dog bites.. Then fine. You are correct that most dog bites are not reported. I would say that only the more severe ones are reports. So Labs probably bite more people than pitts do.. Just because there are more labs out there than there are pitts. So the report skews the number of bites against the pitt, but that is because when they bite it is more severe than other breeds. Dobermans had a bad rep in the 80's and Rotts in the 90 and now Pitts. This is because of the breeding that is going on now and the criminal activity behing it.

Your pitts may be the most docile dog in the world, but he/she still has the potential to kill a child, Labs, Chows, Dobermans, Rotts all have that capability.. But Pitts kill more people than any one else.. Facts are facts..

Another story just out today. But we all know that it's not the dogs fault. We are just being to hard on the breed.

Caddo Parish sheriff's deputies say the woman stabbed the dog, and two neighbors alerted to the commotion helped subdue the animal by beating it with a pipe and a board.

Deputies say the dog will be euthanized because of the viciousness of the attack and the extent of its wounds.

Caddo sheriff's spokeswoman Cindy Chadwick said 27-year-old Kathryn Long suffered severe dog bites to her arm and buttocks and had to be hospitalized.

We see your stand on this issue. My opinions are different than yours. Thats human nature. It sucks that the woman was attacked for disciplining her child. Maybe the dog was protective of the child. When I was a lot younger, my Dad was disciplining me in the room around from where my dachsund was. My dog heard the licks and came running. If my Dad would not have been wearing loose fitting kaki's, he would have no nuts left. The dog came around the corner, jumped up and grabbed my Dad's pants right between the legs. He was thrashing back and forth, the whole time growling. My Dad had to pretty much knock the dog out to make him let go. Pepper was very protective of me. He watched my sister walk by and punch me and he put her in the corner. I had to pull him away from her. A dog is very protective of its owner and his belongings. I know you have seen labs and other breeds in the back of a truck where if you reached into the bed you would draw back a nub.

We get your point. All pits are bad. I'm glad you feel that way.

By the way have you seen the other thread about the dog that killed the 2 month old.....
