Question: I was watching the Grand on waterdog yesterday.I noticed he was saying ,sit, mark, heel while the birds were being shot.Anyone know if he was just filming...or in contention? Several of my buds were tapped out at the same Grand for saying sit.

I've never been to a grand are you not suppose to verbalize with the dog? I can see not having to constantly sit and heal your dog but, I do tell mine to mark. just asking guys cause I don't kno.

if the dog is moving, they assume you said something to stop forward progress, i.e. a controlled break. A controlled break fails at the grand. If the dog isnt moving, you can speak just like any other hrc test, a quiet unobtrusive reminder is fine. travis

Sorry i haven't logged on in a while. Things have been a little crazy around here after getting home from the grand....
I had a great time at the Iowa Grand.... (in Illinios!). The grounds were great and the people were top notch. I left MS with no clue as to what i might encounter. I'd herd all the horror stories and all the talk about the test. So needless to say i was nervous and a _____ in church! The whole way to Iowa i thought about how great of experience this was for me and that i would take alot home with me from this trip (with or without a pass), and that i did. Now that i have experienced the grand i can understand what Travis and Tony always talked about. Guys the grand is special. There really is no way to describe it. You can only experience it. The feeling you get when you round the corner for bitch check and there is a whole herd of dog trucks. The feeling of your stomach turning when you leave out with the caravan for your first series, and the horror you feel when you watch dog after dog go out before you. It's just a feeling you must experience for yourself and i hope everyone on this board will be able to experience it one day. No other organization has anything close to it.
It's an unreal feeling to have run your own dog and passed the grand. I can remember about a year and a half ago watching all the finished dogs at West MS HRC's hunt thinking I'll never have a dog that nice.... But with the help off several people on this board and some who aren't on this board i was able to build a dog who is capable. I can't thank Travis, Tony, Mike, Glenn, Trey, Ronnie, and many others enough for all the help they've given me along the way. Everyone on this board is blessed to have access to a wealth of knowledge in others. Guys don't be afraid to ask for help from anyone on this board. They are more than willing to help. If it weren't for them i wouldn't even be playing this game.
Thank you for all the good wishes along the way.
Clark
