Mike, I like your Mallard Tone Collection. Noel told me you like to collect calls. ---- Got a big laugh when I saw your location!!! The young guys on this site from Jackson will never appreciate the fine eatery located there back in the 60's. She had the best hoop cheeze, sardines, crackers, moon pies, RC colas found anywhere. You could work mallards like crazy in the big woods at Sunflower from 10:00 to 12:00, limit out and catch lunch back at Lurline's.
Maybe you can join Alec at the Mayflower when I come down to get his turkey call to him. Noel and I have a trunk full of stories from there. Holler at him to join us.
Will be hunting the Mallard Motel on 11/28. Can't wait!!!

My favorite of the Mallardtones is that pretty walnut one dead in the center of the first row. But, as you know, I am a sucker for calls with character. Show some more, pops.

Johnny, I would love to meet ya'll there. I'll talk to Noel about going. How is the Mallard Motel these days. That sure was a fine hunt years back when I was there. That place is incredible. And yes those were the days when you could get a quick limit in the Holly Bluff area and warm up in Lurline's with a good sandwich.

blu hed, i actually got the idea for the "lines" of my calls from the old mallardtones. i tweaked them to make them a bit more "mine" but i've always liked that look.
awesome thread, gator

gator, that's a classic design that Mallardtone has. Our calls have the guts like that of Mallardtone even with the wedge (although ours is wood) but we kept the metal reed. It has great reach out and grab um volume.

I thought about this last night and was curious as to the thickness, make up, and shape of that Rasmussen reed. I know all about Jimmy's and Dick's. Even went with Jimmy to see how they made them. Been thinking about it, and was real curious. I know a lot of the reeds in the Tenn. and Ark. calls were thinned down brass or copper. Would also like to see some of your Riddell and Reed calls.
Thanks!

My nephew picked up these 3 calls along with a Jimmy Riddell for $35 on E-bay. Can anyone help with the identification of the these 3 calls? Thanks!

I can help a little bit. The first two calls were made by Thurman McCann of Trumann Arkansas. Those particular calls were made in the early 1980's. Mr. McCann passed on a few years back, but he made some pretty nice calls. I'm not sure what they're worth but I always heard that the more rings it had on it, the more he charged. I saw one sell for $200 a couple of months back. when Mr. McCann passed on, his son sold all of his tools, materials and calls to Barry Wood of Trumann and from what I understand, he is still making a few calls as a hobby. I hope this info has helped.

I couldn't believe he got it for that either. He recognized it from seeing mine. He has a couple of Dick Reed's. It had an old DL for a reed. Put one of Jimmy's reeds in it and it blows like a son of a gun. Wish it were mine.

I'll get him a reed for it if he wants.
