Those are some GREAT captures there Charlie.
That head-on wigeon and the stretching pintail are my favorites.
Good stuff.

3rd and 2nd to last are flat out awesome.

I love a Pintail more than any duck though, so I may be a little partial. I already have one pintail on the wall flying, but if and when I get another, that 3rd to last picture will be with the duck at the taxidermist for a standing mount!

Charlie, how close are you to these birds and what lens are you using?

I generally don't take many pics of birds any father than 35 yards away, with the idea distance is 15 yards or less. I'm using a Canon 1D Mark III with a 500mm f/4 lens with and without a 1.4 TC on some of these.... :D

That's what I figured on the distance. Had a fella tell me one time he has to get them inside 40 to get full frame with his 500mm.

My next ? is, are you in a blind, in a boat, in a ghillie, in the weeds or what? I've been using a chair blind to get my best shots (which aren't that often). Tried layout blinds some but it's just so dang hard to hold a steady hand while crunching forward from a laying down position.

One thing I have noticed, though, is that the closer to the water you get the better the picture looks on sitting birds for some reason.
