Tell me what you would have done??
I come out of the house to get in the Truck and there are these three Geese in my backyard by the pond. They start walking around and I see a reflection and I look closer and one of them is sporting a band.

The first thing I thought was where is my gun?

Then I thought I cant shoot this thing it's prolly just a local MS Banded Goose anywho

So I let him live..
I returned home and they were still there.

They stayed most of the afternoon Eating the chop corn that I feed the local ducks. They finally headed off to the east to make someone else happy I guess.
Would you have let him live.

You guys are making me wish I had Shot him
If I hadn't killed a Mallat and a Ross's with a band this year I prolly would have took him out!
I know how good the feeling was when I killed them and it would not be the same to shoot one in my back yard

Besides it's out of season right

I have never killed a banded duck or goose.
No doubt, I would've taken him.

they squeal like crazy under the bedspread, but with two guys it is about a 15 second operation...

If it were in season, backyard or not I would have gone in and opened up the gun safe.
Out of season, you did the right thing. That idea of trapping him and then removing the band? Sounds good to me. I would like to hear someone report that one. "Yes Ma'am Band #8731009" "kill location?" "well we didn't actually kill the goose we just ............"

I plead the 5th on that one....
actually, no, but I did hear about it from some of the OB park grounds keepers.
There were also several banded geese seen at the ag center, near the DU headquarters. A couple that were double banded. I have heard that they are now without their "bling bling"....
Another one was feeding last year at a DeSoto county school.... in the middle of their football field. Have not seen that one lately.

You did the right thing. I know a local park in Alabama that usually has about 3 or 4 banded mallards. They are all local bands I'm sure but hey, a band is a band. Anyway, we use to contemplate killing them out of season when I was younger, but realized the satisfaction would just not be there after shooting something that trusts you enough to walk within 10 feet of you.
